I cut this off at the seventies. I'm not hopeful that this will format properly.

do you not think one of the first two is going to win quite easily?

I think "Call Me" and "Here I Am" have good chances, possibly better ones than "Let's Stay Together", which is a bit too obvious (but also best.)

Perhaps the winners are self-evident, I don't know. I prefer the four singles that come after those first two--I voted for "I'm Still in Love With You," which I don't expect to clean up or anything--and would also probably place "Let's Get Married" and "Livin' For You" ahead of them as well, but I admit I've probably just overplayed "Let's Stay Together"--not that I don't still think it's a perfect single or anything (but then, so are those others, esp. "I'm Still in Love" and "Call Me").

"Look What You Done For Me" by a mile - and there are several other Al Green songs I prefer over the rest of the hits above (e.g. "Judy"). the overplayed factor is strong for some of his biggest hits.
what were the b-sides? amazing that "Love & Happiness" was not an a-side!?

"Let's Stay Together" shouldn't even count. It's like air or water. Like too much Motown, it's become a natural resource - something you don't need to think about much less vote on since it's always going to be there. At least as long as air and water.

Plus I find it difficult to pick great singles from Al since like Sly Stone's 1960s stuff, they sound much more at home on their Greatest Hits than anywhere else.

But qua single, "Tired of Being Alone" gets it. It's the most singley, with Al's high note serving as the shticky hook missing from the rest of the steady, gloriously monochromatic delights listed above.

"Look What You've Done For Me"

i voted for 'call me', but there are about 5 on that list that on a given day i might have interchanged it with.

I can't remember when I set the closing date for this...

Surprised that "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?" wasn't a US single (in Britain it was the B-side of "Tired Of Being Alone").

I probably should've mentioned that I took the lazy man's route and pasted that from wikipedia. I guess the list doesn't take into account b-sides (but I'm pretty sure that one's not listed on Billboard regardless...I don't think it was a radio song in North America).

as some predicted...

I would have voted for "You Oughta Be With Me" or "Tired of Being Alone."
