Bimble, Sunday, 22 April 2007 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

It's "Hounds Of Love" although "Never For Ever" is the dark horse.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 22 April 2007 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

There should be a "No thanks, I am a mentalist who thinks Madonna is better and more original and the only really good thing Kate Bush ever did was 'Running Up That Hill.'"

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 22 April 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

HaHAHAHAHA

Bimble, Sunday, 22 April 2007 01:14 (eighteen years ago)

Oh shit! I didn't see The Whole Story there so I voted for The Dreaming. The former works fine for me though it precedes her greatest track, "This Woman's Work." Still, if there's a Whole Story/Dreaming tie, let The Whole Story win.

Kevin John Bozelka, Sunday, 22 April 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

WAYYY TOOO HAARRDDD.

the table is the table, Sunday, 22 April 2007 04:26 (eighteen years ago)

"Hounds of Love" tho I am oddly tempted by 'Aerial'

President Evil, Sunday, 22 April 2007 04:26 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for The Dreaming as I love how it's all over the place and has Kate throwing together a ton of ideas. Hounds of Love is certainly up there for having such a solid first half and I love that she made the second half a conceptual "mini-suite". Never For Ever was my favorite at one point for reasons similar to why I like the Dreaming, just that overall I like the songs on Dreaming and HoL better.

Also, Kate fans should check out Stylus's week-long Kate-fest at www.stylusmagazine.com which is coming to an end. The main article is pretty solid, though the smaller daily articles seem to have been pretty shitty for the most part.

Bus Driver Stu, Sunday, 22 April 2007 05:15 (eighteen years ago)

i take the dreaming and never forever over HoL (never understand the LOVE for that one, it's good but not kate at her most extreme - which is how i like her)

gershy, Sunday, 22 April 2007 05:26 (eighteen years ago)

the dreaming!

i can't vote against a record that featured BOTH 'sat in your lap' and 'get out of my house'

Charlie Howard, Sunday, 22 April 2007 07:18 (eighteen years ago)

If there was a marketing department for Aerial, I'd be there. But that's just me. Go about your business.

Bimble, Sunday, 22 April 2007 07:40 (eighteen years ago)

first album by a long shot. toss up between woman's work and teh dreaming for second

grap-fu, Sunday, 22 April 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

Saxaphone Song rules.

Bimble, Sunday, 22 April 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

i feel like i can't respond accurately. if we're talking album i've played most most recently, it's certainly Aerial. but...HoL and The Dreaming are soooo good. they just make me cry, so i don't listen to them often.

the table is the table, Sunday, 22 April 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

this isn't hard for me because hounds is without a doubt my favorite album of all time

cutty, Sunday, 22 April 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

The Dreaming is her greatest album. The Kick Inside is good too.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Sunday, 22 April 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

I usually don't like the idea of "Best Of"s being compared with the rest of the output, as a collection of the best from the entire career will almost always be better than any single album, and I see that as sort of cheating.

That being said, in the case of Kate Bush, "Hounds Of Love" is her best album mainly because of the side that didn't contain any of the singles. So my vote for "Hounds Of Love" remains anyway.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 22 April 2007 18:01 (eighteen years ago)

Btw. where is Ramzi?

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 22 April 2007 18:03 (eighteen years ago)

Hell yeah, where IS Ramzi...someone mentioned her on the Aerial thread and I thought the same thing. But they were calling her a "he" and I was pretty sure she was a she. She wrote me an email back in the Sandbox days but I haven't heard from her since. Okay I just found her email, so I will writing her, see what happens.

Bimble, Sunday, 22 April 2007 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

back up in this mutha.

5 seconds ago i voted HoL, but now i'm thinking i should have said the dreaming...

Dr J Bowman, Sunday, 22 April 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

Now, now, take heart. Remember I said blind taste tests are okay. And besides, we'll do it again next year, or something.

Bimble, Sunday, 22 April 2007 19:00 (eighteen years ago)

There should be a "No thanks, I am a mentalist who thinks Madonna is better and more original and the only really good thing Kate Bush ever did was 'Running Up That Hill.'"

so great!!

so I'm in the country for some tennis and sun, hence my absence. This day makes it hard not to say Aerial, but I chose The Dreaming before I could think about it. Its soundscapes and songwriting are just mindblowing, not to mention her vocal techniques.

Surmounter, Sunday, 22 April 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

BTW boys, this IS Ramzi, and it's a he ; ) don't worry happens all the time. i'm kate bush at heart.

and thanks for the email darlin

Surmounter, Sunday, 22 April 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

The Kick Inside narrowly edges out HoL and Aerial for me. The combination of piano-Kate, Wuthering on TOTP and memories of 6th Form are just too strong to allow me to vote for anything else.

Dr.C, Monday, 23 April 2007 08:57 (eighteen years ago)

I love Ariel, purely for when I played it for the kids, Amber was in rapture and Alice was crying "no! no more song about washing machine! no!"

(I exagerate not)

Mark G, Monday, 23 April 2007 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

Hounds Of Love, but then I only have that and Aerial.

the next grozart, Monday, 23 April 2007 09:58 (eighteen years ago)

thanks for including the cathy demos. one hour of 18yo kate at a piano dumping an avalanche of weird + perfect jewels. much as I love hounds of love I have to give it up for those demos.

Edward III, Monday, 23 April 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

i'm probably more interested in the results of this one than most others

Charlie Howard, Monday, 23 April 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

i feel like i can't respond accurately. if we're talking album i've played most most recently, it's certainly Aerial. but...HoL and The Dreaming are soooo good. they just make me cry, so i don't listen to them often

Exactly

Surmounter, Monday, 23 April 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

sometimes when Night of the Swallow comes on, and i've like had too much to drink, i just lose it. same with Hello Earth.

Surmounter, Monday, 23 April 2007 22:54 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for 'The Dreaming'. To celebrate this, here's a film of Kate doing There Goes a Tenner on Razzamatazz. My old flatmate was in the audience on Razzamatazz once. Suzi Quatro stood on his hand.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wex3u4aVW0

Keith, Monday, 23 April 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

Alice was crying "no! no more song about washing machine! no!"

Hahaha...this is like Japanese English. (well, my boss is from Japan, so I can't help but notice)

Ramzi! Hey there. I wish you hadn't mentioned Hello Earth just now. I could SO have a major overdramatic, theatrical drunken dance around the fire with that song to the point of unconsciousness, I know that for sure.

Bimble, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

hounds of love of course, but I think sensual world edges out the dreaming on some days. I know I'm the only one

akm, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 02:51 (eighteen years ago)

omg u totally are. TOTALLY.

i know, don't you love in Hello Earth when you really feel like you're swimming? and then she screams Murderer, and then a choir seduces you into hypnotic bliss?

Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 04:22 (eighteen years ago)

Oh my god The Dreaming... What I wouldn't give to relive the exprience of hearing Suspended In Gaffa for the first time
i dont' suppose anyone else was tempted to vote for The Red Shoes

french diplomacy, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 04:45 (eighteen years ago)

A person could spontaneously combust while Hello Earth is playing. This is true. I mean it's almost enough to make you ask your own inner little red riding hood "what happened to the wizard of oz?"

Bonus points if you turn up the volume when the choir gets going.

Bimble, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

Aw...the Red Shoes is such a nice choice! I wish could say I'd felt tempted, honestly...

Bimble, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 05:02 (eighteen years ago)

yeah turning up the choir is ace. the second choir part goes on for longer than you think it's going to, and all of a sudden, you forget you're listening to an album made by like a human, and you feel transported

i used to vote for sensual world over the red dhoes but i might be changing my mind.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 12:59 (eighteen years ago)

anyone for Never for Ever?

Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

and btw, responding to something on the Stylus week thing. what do we think about the HoL division of songs? I rather like it, the pop on one side, the journey suite on the other. i can't imagine the pops mixed in, at all. but i think the stylus article was saying they should have been.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

I just wanted to express my regrets that I can't remember when I told this poll to end. But I think it was May 4th for some reason. So vote soon.

Re:HOL - I can't imagine HOL any other way than divided between the two sides like that.

I regret to say I didn't get to read Alfred's pieces on her yet, but that was only because Marcello's piece infuriated me to the point I couldn't stand it anymore.

Bimble, Sunday, 29 April 2007 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

Note to Marcello: Strange Phenomena is not about PERIOD PAINS!! READ THE FREAKING LYRICS. It's about strange coincidences and premonitions. This is not rocket science.

Bimble, Sunday, 29 April 2007 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

the only reason this is not hard is because i have wrestled with the question for so long that i've worked out my stock answer - the dreaming narrowly over hounds of love. to be honest aerial put a massive spanner in the works though.

lex pretend, Sunday, 29 April 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

If Dreaming wins, I will kiss you all.

Bimble, Sunday, 29 April 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)

it should but i have a feeling it won't

Surmounter, Sunday, 29 April 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

omg remember that youtube clip of the kate interview where the interviewer keeps calling it "Dreaming" and "The Hounds of Love"

fuckin obnoxious

Surmounter, Sunday, 29 April 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah...I remember some thread here...not Kate thread mind...where someone said it was one of their fave albums and called it "The Hounds Of Love" and I was in hysterics. "THE" Hounds Of Love! Ridiculous.

Sorry I lapsed into "Dreaming". My boss is from Japan, so it rubs off sometimes.

Bimble, Sunday, 29 April 2007 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

yes it was that intro thread, some guy introducing himself and all the music he loved, like all hyper

i was sure to point it out :-)

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 02:39 (eighteen years ago)

Hounds of Love. Bit of a no-brainer for me, though, since that's the only one that I have.

Jeff Treppel, Monday, 30 April 2007 02:58 (eighteen years ago)

Oooh, it's here again!
The man with the Poll in his eyes...

Mark G, Monday, 30 April 2007 11:34 (eighteen years ago)

hounds of love is the only one you have??? nuff said!

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 12:26 (eighteen years ago)

I think The Dreaming is in with a shout here.

Noodle Vague, Monday, 30 April 2007 12:32 (eighteen years ago)

Dreaming

This is why some people get to write pieces for Stylus and others don't.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 30 April 2007 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

Stylus

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

I really like Hounds of Love! I would get The Dreaming and Aerial, but I've never really seen The Dreaming used, and otherwise I'm lazy.

Jeff Treppel, Monday, 30 April 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

both aerial and the dreaming are on amazon for under £3

lex pretend, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

yeah go to the amazon new and used section. and if you really like hounds of love, you'll probably really like the dreaming and aerial.

the dreaming, honestly, will blow your mind. if, i mean, the question really is, which half of hounds of love do you really like?

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

yeah bimble, as much as it pains me to say it, marcello is right.

akm, Monday, 30 April 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

bimble i heart u

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

I prefer the first half. I mean, the reason I picked it up in the first place is because I saw the video for "The Big Sky" on VH1 classic at like two in the morning one night and then couldn't get the damn song out of my head.

Jeff Treppel, Monday, 30 April 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)

Right as in he used a metaphor? Well good for him, then. (I still don't get it, but whatever)

Thanks Ramzi.

Bimble, Monday, 30 April 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

ah ; ) the 2nd half took me a while too, it's not as hooky, obviously - it's more about the soundscapes

but it's undoubtedly the more "amazing" half. you should try listening to "hello earth" when you're in a, well, high mood.

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

or geez just put Jig of Life on anytime

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I can't say I pull out Hounds Of Love much anymore - kindof wore it out I guess - but I'd much likelier play the second half now than the first.

Bimble, Monday, 30 April 2007 22:42 (eighteen years ago)

To be honest, it's one of those records that I've liked so much upon the first couple listens that I don't listen to it very much for fear of wearing out its effect. So upon further listening, it's very possible that I would like the second part better.

Jeff Treppel, Monday, 30 April 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

i know what you mean, i save hounds and the dreaming for very specific moods. someone put it perfectly a short while ago: oh wait it's on this thread i think, hold on

i feel like i can't respond accurately. if we're talking album i've played most most recently, it's certainly Aerial. but...HoL and The Dreaming are soooo good. they just make me cry, so i don't listen to them often.

-- the table is the table, Sunday, April 22, 2007 11:35 AM (1 week ago)

perfect, that's exACTLY how i feel. and the first half hits you with such a bang of hooks, it's easy to like keep the 2nd half at bay for a while. but it's really, really brilliant sound-making.

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

honestly though jeff, i think you'd be very, very, very happy with the purchase of the dreaming.

"the purchase of the dreaming" would definitely be the title of a chapter in the book about my life.

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

The Dreaming by a landslide!

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:27 (eighteen years ago)

oh nice. i'm glad to see the dreaming confirmed as the kate enthusiast's kate album. it was the first one i ever heard, so it's never not been my favorite.

tipsy mothra, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:30 (eighteen years ago)

Weirdly, The Dreaming and Hounds of Love are amongst the only records I loved passionately ten years ago which don't seem weird to listen to now. I play them quite regularly, and love them just as much.

Tim F, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

"The Dreaming" is great, but I still prefer the more varied moods on side 2 of "Hounds Of Love":

Geir Hongro, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:43 (eighteen years ago)

i know wat u mean, but the sheer audacity/insanity/whatever of the dreaming still kick my ass

Surmounter, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)

OMG i didn't even see the results!! sweet :-)

good for aerial at number 3. VERY surprised about never for ever - behind the whole story and sensual world with only 1 vote! that's CRAZY! egypt people, egypt

Surmounter, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

I love the way Marcello naturally assumes I want to write for Stylus. It's like excuse me - do you have actually have any evidence that I've ever even tried or shown an interest in writing for Stylus? I didn't think so. He is like the poster boy for the egomaniac music writers' support group. No problem, dude, I've seen it many times before. I know your kind. I take great pleasure in breaking it to the likes of you that just because you write about music in some publication does not actually mean you are superior to the rest of the human race, and it doesn't mean you actually write decent material either. I took issue with more than one point of that Kate Bush piece, I assure you, but I was loathe to declare all-out war here. Suffice to say, much as I love Kate, I will never understand the way you view her. And I don't think history bears out your claims, either.

Bimble, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 01:14 (eighteen years ago)

Good lord, Dreaming by a landslide. Kisses all around.

Bimble, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 01:19 (eighteen years ago)

Nice to see constructive, coherent, well-argued criticism flourishing on ILM. Or at least it would be nice to see some.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 07:12 (eighteen years ago)

oh geez. everyone pushes each other's buttons and then they wonder why they're arguing. this is about kate, in any event. kate and houdini.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

these polls are so bittersweet.

the dreaming is my favourite and i do think it deserved to win, but then i see the kick inside with only 5 votes and i get a little sad ;(

Charlie Howard, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

i know, it's true. aerial with only 7. not enough peeps.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
