I just watched their farewell documentary and I want to check out some of their songs. Can some of you list 10 songs from them you would suggest I try out>?

Tiger Lily
23 Minutes in Brussles (probably their best song)
Fuzzy Wuzzy
Slide

Those are my favorites. But "California (All The Way)" is the surefire mixtape classic.

I'm a casual fan at best, but that documentary rules.

Sideshow by the Seashore - I love that bendy guitar part.

i'm tempted to just say pick 10 songs from lunapark but some of the latter stuff mentioned here is decent enough

Do you guys find their earlier stuff to be stronger?

MusicQuizKing, Sunday, 22 April 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

Post Penthouse there's a dip in overall quality but there are great tunes on every album. From the latter days, Malibu Lovenest, Black Champagne, Superfreaky Memories, Astronaut are some good ones.
They've got some great cover versions too:
Bonnie & Clyde (Gainsbourg, w/ gal from Stereolab)
Neon Lights (Kraftwerk)
Ride Into The Sun (VU)

I've been having a bit of a Luna time of today. It's reconfirmed my love for Romantica, a late bolt of loveliness.

My favourites of all:

Smile. I find it hard to separate the tracks on Lunapark. They're all good of a piece. But this is a great "Hello, we're here" opener and I like the joy it seems to take in its own simplicity.

Chinatown. Dean Wareham's always had this knack of taking me to a (for me) glamorous scene, a very American place. When he was in Galaxie 500, it seemed to be about a consciously past time. With Luna, he threw out the mythologising project and engaged with his here and now. But it was a different here to mine. So Chinatown's giddy rush was still exotic, even if it was fun as hell. "I like this time the most"

I Want Everything.

Mermaid Eyes. "I'm crying for you / you're crying for me / from station to station to station" and then one of the loveliest rushes of guitar they ever made.

Renée Is Crying. Changes of pace as confusing as its lyric's sentiment, but the whole song just sums up Luna for me. And "I could look at your face for oodles and oodles" is one of the sweetest lines.

Rememories. I know they had one more album, but they should have ended with this, really.

I think I like that first Britta and Dean album more than any Luna (search "Ginger Snaps" and "The Night Nurse").

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, both of those are great.

"I Want Everything" seconded, "Slash Your Tires" added.
