Can one pull this off over 30?

chris, Monday, 23 April 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

Who'd want to, under?

Mark G, Monday, 23 April 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

I have tried (I'm over thirty), but wife has nixed this idea. Why she no want Iggy Pop picture in dining room?

pj, Monday, 23 April 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

Trout Mask Replica?

Mark G, Monday, 23 April 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe if you earned a gold record for something.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 23 April 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

Classic = you have legitimate interest in album cover.
Dud = hipster irony factor (under 30: velvet underground, bowie, zappa, etc.)

valoss, Monday, 23 April 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

um topic aside, people under 30 can't/don't have "legitimate" interest in the velvet underground?

pretzel walrus, Monday, 23 April 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

i bought three of these things in urban outfitters but have only so far used one, for hunky dory, in my bedroom. as soon as i buy my own place, i plan on filling at least one major wall with the suckers. screw the haters, i fucking love cover art!

CharlieNo4, Monday, 23 April 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

ps i am 31 and will be older than that (um, obviously).

CharlieNo4, Monday, 23 April 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

I have a friend who has a few classic salsa album covers on the wall, framed, and based on the photo I saw of her wall, I thought it looked pretty good.

(Actually I have one framed album I need to get up on my wall, but I'm too lazy to go to the management office and ask for the special wall doohickeys they make us use. It's not a classic album though, some Greek folk music, and the art is sort of bad (specifically, the drawn figures look awkward), but the colors are interesting and I like it.)

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 23 April 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

(Also I am going to be moving within a year so why put sh*t up on the wall? Why do anything?)

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 23 April 2007 17:18 (eighteen years ago)

i have bowie's "low" up on my wall, and i'm 24. i guess i can only like him ironically, despite having been obsessed for 10+ years now.

classic, by the way. it's art. i like looking at it.

Emily Bjurnhjam, Monday, 23 April 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

i have superfuzz bigmuff in the front room, and bad moon rising (sy) and music of my mind in my bedroom. great albums, great covers.

stevie, Monday, 23 April 2007 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

um topic aside, people under 30 can't/don't have "legitimate" interest in the velvet underground?

30 does seem a rather bizarre cut-off point. 50 might more sense, I suppose.

Alba, Monday, 23 April 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

i hope i'm still listening to VU when I'm 50!

Mr. Que, Monday, 23 April 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway, it's not something I'd do, but I have a friend who has a framed Rolling Stone cover and I like him, so there. He's 35, and it's a 1960s album, so I'm not sure if that means he passes valoss's "hipster irony factor" test.

Alba, Monday, 23 April 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

i had a bunch of mo'wax records on the wall in my mid 20's, but these days its art i've bought from friends and others. i would like to mount my happy mondays pills 'n' thrills uk subway poster for the bedroom tho.

BATTAGS, Monday, 23 April 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

Rolling Stones, I meant, not Rolling Stone.

Alba, Monday, 23 April 2007 19:33 (eighteen years ago)

B-52's debut, autographed by all 5 in 1979, on my wall.

Dan Peterson, Monday, 23 April 2007 19:33 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, I haven't seen 30 in years...

Dan Peterson, Monday, 23 April 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)

I cut some old, water-damaged covers (Rumours, the original pressing of Some Girls, and an Elton John soundtrack with a really cool pink cover) to fit glass frameless 8x10 picture holders, which turned out nice.. Alas, I am 24, so I am not allowed to appreciate the music my parents fed me growing up.

Finefinemusic, Monday, 23 April 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

we've got the two peter saville dichromats from the inner sleeves of "substance", plus the yellow 12" of "fine time" framed in our living room. so classic as fuck.

The way to do this is with the twin glass pane "clips" frames from ikea (and elsewhere). Make sure theres white paper behind the album cover. The glass is probably 20"x20".

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

What if I put them up before I was thirty and have been too lazy to take them down since?

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

I have "The Harder They Come" soundtrack and "Robert Johnson: King of the Delta Blues Singer" framed and hanging.

Jazzbo, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

I have New Order's "Fine Time" 12" and Electronic's "Getting Away With It" 12" up, but mainly because I like the Saville artwork (amazing songs, but not like my favorite-ever albums or whatever).

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

I'm doing it with stuff I've reissued, for my "office".

dan selzer, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

There are a few album covers I'd like to scan and output at 18x18 or larger, but I'm afraid the print shops I could go to would be worried about copyrights.

milo z, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

I've considered hanging some up but I just can't bring myself to do it. some candidates:

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

Except my vinyl copy has all of the song titles running down the right margin.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 22:40 (eighteen years ago)

No one is a bigger fan of the album cover than m'self, but I'm thinking it's just too cheeseball to frame one. And too Urban Outfitter at that.
