why did kill rock stars choose to split one disc's worth of unreleased elliott smith tracks between 2 cd's?

wanko ergo sum, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 04:39 (eighteen years ago)

so you're saying that the new elliott smith thingamajig has less than 80 minutes worth of material on it?

tylerw, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

its like 73 mins of songs, 2 cd's.

yeah for some reason i thought this was a good question last night.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

lol

lfam, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

that does seem a little odd. there's no thematic thing going on between the two discs even?

tylerw, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

when is this out, anyway? is it out now? with the nick drake CD coming out soon, it's shaping up to be a posthumous time of the year.

tylerw, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

didn't KRS also put out that two-disc Unwound album with 73 or 74 minutes of music on it? maybe no one ever told them that they made CDs bigger

bernard snowy, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think it's a bad question at all. What's the packaging like? Are they charging more than a single disc?

Ben Boyerrr, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

Leaves Turn Inside You also contains two (kind of pointless) videos, which probably made 2 discs necessary. The promo version is 1 CD.

realy?! I've had that album for years and I never knew!

bernard snowy, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 02:02 (eighteen years ago)

still a bunch of stuff from the basement 2 demo leak that isn't on here, surprisingly (see my city dead, for instance, unless it's under a different name)

akm, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

I take that back, i guess there are only a couple of tracks that aren't on here.

akm, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

2 discs for leaves turn inside you = need to use art and match double lps

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

It's only the Kill Rock Stars stuff.. I think a bunch of the Basement 2 demos were post-1997.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

the version of this that "leaked" that I got ahold of is bogus, btw; it's the tracks sourced from the basement 2 stuff and other available sources, I think; because the "miss misery" included is just the soundtrack version, but apparently the one on the album has different lyrics and is a different take

I had hoped for this thread to get more epic

A B C, Friday, 27 April 2007 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

Makes it more expensive, for one thing. I own a little used/new CD shop and the labels pull this crap all the time. The recent Willie Nelson/Ray Price/Merle Haggard is a double and about 65 minutes long. Ditto the last Kate Bush release. Grrr...

ellaguru, Friday, 27 April 2007 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah and also it makes the casual shopper go, 'Wow, it's two CDs' worth of stuff!'

In France it's common for a limited-edition second CD to be released with, like, four recent B-sides on it. Total scam tactics to try and make people buy the same album twice.

braveclub, Friday, 27 April 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

In all fairness to Kate Bush I must say that I listened to Aerial today and it is just over 80 minutes. If she had cut 30-45 seconds somewhere it would have fit.

Also, some pressing plants won´t guarantee discs over 74-75 minutes.

sleeve, Friday, 27 April 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

It's available May 8th. And 'See My City Dead' is included, now called 'Fear City'.
