Okay, so My Chemical Romance - "The Black Parade" is actually very good indeed

I'm fucking gobsmacked actually. I thought these guys were supposed to be the wackest band int he universe, but this is surprisingly inventive, lyrical, bombastic, and it rocks like a good pop-rock album should. There's a few elements of "American Idiot" in there, a little bit of Queen, even some Faith No More but very little trace of Emo. Best Rock album in ages.

Hmm this sounds like the least appetizing description of an album ever.

yes! this album rules! people need to stop thinking it's emo, cause it ain't! it's over the top glam pop, that owes a lot more to queen and the misfits than sunny day real estate or taking back sunday or whatever. i am SO excited to see them live. with a couple thousand screaming teenage girls. YES.

After loving the single I was pretty disappointed when what I heard of the album just sounded like a very slightly fruitier American Idiot but I bet they are LOLOLOL awesome live. I don't think I could bite the bullet on a My Chemical Romance concert ticket so I was really disappointed to see that they're not playing Lollapalooza but maybe there will be a surprise on the ATP lineup at Pitchfork fest.

is there anyone who really likes The Black Parade who didn't sleep on Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge? it seems like such a disappointing follow-up to me, honestly, and that's only intensified by the fact that they haven't released a good single since "Helena" (and it's not like they didn't have great songs like "Cemetery Drive" and "Teenagers" to choose from).

teenagers is the new single, i heard it on the radio the other day!! that slow one they had before that was dookie though, not even a good video

A B C, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

i am a big fan of their videos so when i heard it on the radio i was immediately like "oh man what if in the video for this one they revisit the high school from i'm not okay i promise" and then i took a quiet moment to contemplate the fact that i had basically just written my chemical romance fan fiction.

ah, I guess you're right, I assumed because there was an "I Don't Love You" video that it would be the next single in the U.S. but apparently it was just a U.K. release.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

haha i listened to mellon collie for the first time since short pants days over the weekend and while rocking out i remember specifically thinking at one point "these are as bad as my chemical romance lyrics"

A B C, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

OTM. Aside from "Welcome...", "Teenagers" is the only tune I even still remember from the album and even that's just kind of catchy in its dumbness at best.

Sundar, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

(And I still hum album tracks from Three Cheers.

"Helena" was as momentous as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or "Toxicity" for me.)

Good to hear - I am playing chaperone at the MCR concert next month, taking my 14 year old sister and her boyfriend to scary downtown Toronto

Finefinemusic, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

Great single, weak album.

CAN I PLEASE MAKE THIS A REAL THREAD?

Emily Bjurnhjam, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

i managed to get a couple comp tickets. i probably wouldn't have spent 30 bucks on a ticket. but since i didn't have to pay, i am all over it! i hope there are explosions and costumes and video screens with little goth cartoon characters acting out the songs! i seriously doubt that i will be disappointed!

Emily Bjurnhjam, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

Peversely, as an old Goth, I want to like this, but can't get beyond the 'anthemic' vocals and the weedy guitars. Bless 'em, though.

My Chemical Romance have unveiled further details about their forthcoming fourth album – and admitted the band almost split up last year.

Singer Gerard Way said the follow-up to their 2006 concept album 'The Black Parade' has been influenced by The Stooges and MC5.

"We wanted to harness everything that's great about this band into shorter songs, almost protopunk, like The Stooges or the MC5," he told Rolling Stone.
