I've said it before, but personally I've always thought Autoditacker was their peak moment. That's when they reached a sound that was uniquely theirs; a sound that no one had ever done before, nor would anyone try to do it after, I guess not even themselves. Though you gotta give them credit for not just sticking to what they got, and wanting to experiment, for me each new experiment has made them more and more boring, which doesn't mean they're totally bad. Even though I thought Niun Niggung already flirted too much with IDM, at least it was better than most other IDM around, and Idiology had it moments too.

I think I should give Radical Connector a second try, at the time it came out it sounded lame to me, but at the time I was already feeling quite disillusioned with MoM. And I have never even heard Varcharz.

Glam

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:45 (eighteen years ago)

Though maybe I should vote for Vulvaland, because it's so different from anything that followed it. The sound on that record totally takes me back to 1994.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

Where is the "do not like" option, he says to the guy who doesn't like Sabbath or Zeppelin? ;)

NYCNative, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

Iaora Tahiti probably for me. But Idiology runs it close.
Can't say I dislike any of their albums.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

fave MOM: Glam w/Autoditacker / Idiology / Niun sharing 2nd

fave Lithops: Didot lp, which would be my 2nd favorite MOM if it were actually MOM -- stripped down Autoditacker-era fast rhythmic sketches but weirder & fiercer, less dreamy & somatic

wasn't sold by Radical Connector, Varcharz or Mound Magnet (the latter made the sellback pile) but the Queries comp of late 90's Lithops stuff will tide me over to the sudafed

Milton Parker, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 21:50 (eighteen years ago)

milton OTM, as usual!

nerve_pylon, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 03:04 (eighteen years ago)

I have never ever listened to MoM apart from a track I really liked called Gocard. Why didn't I ever check them?

the next grozart, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

Have only heard Idiology which I think is really good. Will use poll for shopping later.

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:08 (eighteen years ago)

Only heard "Autoditacker" and "Iaora Tahiti". For me, they are very much alike. Both OK in terms of production/sounds/effects/stereo effects. (obviously not in terms of melodies, but the other elements make them OK anyway). I voted for "Iaora Tahiti" but it might as weel have been "Autoditacker".

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:12 (eighteen years ago)

Tuomas' post re; Autoditacker is almost word-for-word what I'd have put. I love Iaora Tahiti almost as much.

Scik Mouthy, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:47 (eighteen years ago)

I have a big love for the dubby tunes on Instrumentals (and Vulvaland) too, maybe they should've gone that route instead of IDM/electro.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, Tuomas OTM. Mind you, I haven't heard anything on that list after Idiology, even though they are one of my favourite bands.

Any other side projects apart from Lithops & Von Sudenfed? I can't think...

emil.y, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

Iaora Tahiti is going to kill this

gman, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

strongohulkington, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 13:52 (eighteen years ago)

Any other side projects apart from Lithops & Von Sudenfed? I can't think...

DJ Crack, Mou Ars On, DJ Fruit - MOM aliases, used for remixes
Dü - Jan and F.X. Randomiz
Loophole - Andi, Dodo and Raoul Walton (Wei Chi)
Jean Park - Andi solo
Esognomig - one-off Sonig/Mego improv melee.

Iaora Tahiti all the way.

Mr. Hal Jam, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

Also, Yamo Time Pie.

For me, Idiology. Although they were almost infallible up to that point. Idiology is still just an incredibly original record. Nothing else sounds like it. I mean... "Presence"?

Mark Rich@rdson, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

AGIT ITER IT IT

Why is that not on here.

"Milleader" is pretty much their peak. Such an excellent group.

neustile, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

What is "Agit Iter It It"?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

An long EP between Idiology and Radical Connector.

Mark Rich@rdson, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

Bump. The poll closes today at midnight, Finnish time I think. (So that's 10 PM British time.)

Tuomas, Thursday, 26 April 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm, no results yet... Does anyone know at what hour does the poll end, and does it depend on the timezone of the poll starter?

Tuomas, Thursday, 26 April 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

There we have it.

Mark Rich@rdson, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

Good to see Iaora Tahiti and Idiology do so well.

I would do a Squarepusher or Aphex Twin best albums poll but I've done enough this week.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:12 (eighteen years ago)

Yay, the right album won!

Tuomas, Friday, 27 April 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

Nah, the right album was second ;)
