More dreamy 60's sunshine pop!

I don't really see what's so psychedelic about Arthur Lee and Love. They just seem like LA dreamy romantic sunshine pop to me. But in any case, that's exactly what I'm looking for -- stuff like Wonder People, The Good Humor Man etc. From Love. Also maybe "Tell Her No" by the Zombies, and I'm sure there are plenty of other examples but I can't think of them right now.

I think a lot of it has to do with relying on certain sweetly dissonant 7th chords, although I don't know enough about music theory terminology to explain it beyond that.

OH! and anything from the 60's that sounds like The Clientele (the good Clientele, not their new album) and maybe some older crooning from the 60s and earlier that has that Morrisey-esque lilt to it. Does that make sense?

I'm not in front of my music collection but if I can think of more examples I'll post them.

I thought of another two, both songs that had been samples by hip hop artists (Pete Rock and CL Smooth and A Tribe Called Quest, respectively):

"Today" by Tom Scott,
and "The Visit" by The Cyrkle

both songs are what I'm looking for, especially The Visit which totally nails it.

With "The Killing Moon," I always get that same powerful feeling that always comes when I listen to "Alone Again Or."

But that's a few decades too late.

Bryan Maclean's solo album is an obvious selection you might look into.

Uhm, early Tim Buckley probably has something like this as well.

Tim Ellison to thread?

They just seem like LA dreamy romantic sunshine pop to me

with all those dreamy romantic sunshine lyrics like "sitting on a hillside watching all the people die" and "oh the snot has caked against my pants"

There's also some pretty cool obscure stuff on a compilation called Tektites; you can probably find download links on Google on some mp3 blog.
