this sounds like the worst thing

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

they sucked this summer

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

so 2004 it hurts...

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

wasn't never scared from '03? how are they gonna include the same kano song

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

at least the token Baltimore club track is a really good one! I don't really know anything else on it besides like Rick Ross and Yes, though.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

It has my favourite ever italodisco song on it!

braveclub, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

That Yes song is great

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

it doesn't have switch's remix of "bump", which is the best thing with the words "spank rock" or "amanda blank" attached to it.

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

featuring the impossibly rare cosmic disco hit "owner of a lonely heart" by obscure prog rockers yes

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

Wait Al you don't know "The Breaks"?

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

i have a blend of baby got back over that yes joint called 'owner of a lonely butt'

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

"Owner of a Lonely Heart" is old skool r&b by a one hit wonder, not cosmic disco by prog rockers. get it right

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

xp lol

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

well yeah, hence I said "like" and not "these are the only 3 songs I know". but really I didn't even see that "The Breaks" was on there.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

so wait arent these cats fake booty bass?? why is this all hipster dance??

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

tag team >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> kano

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

there's a difference between those 2 things?? (xpost)

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

anyway the presence of bostich, yes and rick ross makes it pretty clear this is far from digging in the crates-type mix of obscurities

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

it has romantics - talking in your sleep on it:D

not fussed by the rest really

600, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

well isn't the whole catch 22 of these kinds of "official DJ mix" CDs that they can only include what they can legally clear to use, not actual rarities/obscurities?

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

I could only stand to listen to this once

so 2004 it hurts

otm

dmr, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

rarities are probably easier to clear than major label Yes tracks! or at least less $$.

dmr, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

i mean it's kinda like dissing that XXL Raps CD for not being obscure enough. (xpost)

http://image.listen.com/img/170x170/8/7/9/2/902978_170x170.jpg

^^^i think these cds were actually part of the required curriculum at my h.s.

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

my fav is vol 2

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

not really! this is pretty rote hipster dance fodder at this point - 80s italo/electro/disco classics, throwaway southern rap single, OLD SKOOL HIP-HOP, then a bunch of MOR hipster dance like latter-day daft punk and metro area. its all really obvious. they could easily have gotten more obscure and probably paid less in clearances (and closer to what their actual sound is)

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

this whole section right here is all good enough stuff but massively played out (cept the motown of course)

07. Zongamin – Bongo Song – XL
08. Kano – I’m Ready – Antibemusic
09. Daft Punk – Technologic – Virgin
10. Switch – A Bit Patchy – Data
11. The Contours – Do You Love Me – Motown
12. Mylo – Drop The Pressure – Breastfed

dmr, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

i have all three volumes and i agree about vol. 2 actually!

i like the R&B ones the most

xp

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

five of these tracks have been on other fabric comps. this is so rote it's embarassing.

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

3. Freak It - Lathun
4. Apple Pie - Virgo
5. Summertime Summertime - Corina

^^^yessss

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

oh and INOJ's "Love You Down"!

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

This is possibly the most played out selection ever to make it onto a Fabric compilation. Drop The Pressure! In 2007!

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

"12. Mylo – Drop The Pressure – Breastfed"

^^^this is fucking hilarious

creme1, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

there are mainstream minsitry of sound comps from like 2004 with almost identical tracklistings

creme1, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

uhh should we be parsing the difference between fake booty bass and "real" booty bass? (xpost)

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

30. Justice vs. Simian - We Are Your Friends
31. The Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin' Beats
32. The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows
33. Wildchild - Renegade Master (Fatboy Slim Remix)

Matt DC, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

Thing is, I can sort of see that Do You Love Me/Drop The Pressure segue really working but I'm sure I actually heard Erol or someone do it like three years ago.

Matt DC, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

33. Wildchild - Renegade Master (Fatboy Slim Remix)

this is better than anything on the real cd

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

Haha I actually sort of want to listen to it now!

Matt DC, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

yeah yeah

xp lex DOLLARSTORE

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

ive spent a lot of time trying to replicate that bassline, its almost like late 90s pop-dnb roni size shit

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

i should just accept that, much like homer simpson, music will never be better than what i listened to in high school

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

seriously i would not complain if that bassline was on permanent loop in my head for ooh the next decade or so

lex pretend, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

haha i've been messing around with blending rappers and dance stuff for awhile on my computer

that's basically the whole new a-trak mix for obey... but the ppl I heard talking about it hated it
I haven't heard it yet

A-Trak's love of subversive animals and poppy colors

o_O

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

is there a tracklist?

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

i've seen a trak live and i'll be honest he's a pretty good DJ. He gets into the gimmicky 80s rock thing on occasion but he makes it work unlike lots of these dudes.

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

there was def a time in my life when i woulda dismissed that straight up but lately im not enough of a real rap dogmatist to pretend i wouldnt fuck with it

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

i mean when i saw him live it was after flosstradamus so maybe it was just one of those great by comparison things but seriously, he threw a good party, knew how to build tension throughout the set and when&what to mix

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

cept for the aforementioned 80s cheese rock

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i respect dudes like him with real battle-honed DJ skills beyond whether their actual taste/selection is good or bad

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

it has a tracklist lke Never Scared where it references some of the track names but doesnt give real titles

here's an excerpt from the review on ttlab (whoever they got to review it liked it a lot I guess)

Yung Joc's "It's Goin' Down" over Soulwax's "E Talking?" Rick Ross' "Hustlin'" over Simian Mobile Disco's "Hustler?" They shouldn't work, but goddamn they do. Also features remixes of "Throw Some D's," "Wamp Wamp," "Bojangles," "Stuntin' Like My Daddy," "My Love" and a ton more. Loving the new M.I.A. ("XR2") over the Moroder track, and the XXXchange-produced Kid Sister joint, too.

I dunno. doesn't sound that good to me. if someone gave it to me I'd listen to it I guess.

dmr, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

that sounds shitty

i thought it was gonna be like pastor troy over raver shit not spankrock/diplo affilates over hipster dance

and what, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

played out pop rap over simian mobile disco isn't exactly what i was thinking

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

xp yeah

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

why

r|t|c, Thursday, 10 May 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

um because i respect skills/musicianship (gasp shock rockism)!?!? even in a producer/DJ context where that kind of thing is harder to quantify, there are dudes like him who you can't accuse of just beatmatching some cute juxtaposition or whatever.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 May 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

but isn't Rick Ross Hustlin' over SMD Hustler the definition of a cute juxtaposition?

dmr, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

maybe I'm misunderstanding the argument

dmr, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

the operative word in my post was "just."

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

i mean, i'm not really into 'turntablism,' but i'm just saying there's a difference between some hack with a serato who can't beatmatch and a-trak doing mash-ups, even if i don't necessarily want to listen to either.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:05 (eighteen years ago)

it's like the difference between a guitarist in a shitty metal band and a guitarist in a shitty punk band. you might not wanna buy a record by either, but it's not hard to tell who has more skills.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:06 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't like it as a whole. The mixing from song to song was awkward. However, Amanda Blank rapping over the Justice remix of Mr. Oizo's track I found to be amazing..I wish that song was longer. I wouldn't buy it though.

somuchsomuch24, Thursday, 10 May 2007 22:40 (eighteen years ago)

Actually cool blends i've done recently:

Cash Crew - "High Powered Rap" over Joe Bataan - "The Bottle"

Schooly D "Saturday Night" over Too Short - "Just Another Day"
