operation ivy is kinda cool.

chaki, Saturday, 28 April 2007 03:02 (eighteen years ago)

Does Operation Ivy count as third wave?

Kevin John Bozelka, Saturday, 28 April 2007 04:32 (eighteen years ago)

just a heads up; there's an extra word in your thread title, and also "BAND" should be pluralized

Funny how I deleted that word in my head automatically. I didn't realize it was there until sleepingbag pointed it out.

That's why I capitalized it, because I imagined it would be easy to head-edit.

Operation Ivy so far is the LEAST offensive TWS band name I've come up with, but it's still pretty stupid (however, it abbreviates quite well)

Sublime?

The Reverend, Saturday, 28 April 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

The Pietasters. The Toasters. The Slackers. The Scofflaws (bonus points to these guys for not making the obvious pun on ska - I hated that!).

Sublime? They were way more multifaceted to simply call them a Third Wave Ska band, but their name is pretty cool. One of those one where you think, why didn't someone hit on that sooner?

Band NAME? Catch-22 has a perfectly serviceable name, and Tom's new band doesn't just have a great Ska band name, but a great name, period. "Streetlight Manifesto." It helps that they all kick ass.

We should actually do this for jam bands.

The Secretaries

Tape Store, Sunday, 29 April 2007 01:59 (eighteen years ago)

"Mustard Plug" seems pretty inoffensive. There are probably lots of these.

Am I the only one who enjoys band names like Mephiskapholes much more than I enjoy the music?

Aside from that, there's always The Blue Meanies.

Hepcat?

milo z, Sunday, 29 April 2007 02:21 (eighteen years ago)

The Toasters would be a good name for an actual Jamaican band, sans artwork that includes the appliance.

PappaWheelie V, Sunday, 29 April 2007 02:45 (eighteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure that's what the band were trying to convey... it is all a distant memory though

DJ Mencap, Sunday, 29 April 2007 03:45 (eighteen years ago)

Those are all terrible, terrible band names.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 29 April 2007 07:41 (eighteen years ago)

The Secretaries isn't really that bad, actually.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 29 April 2007 07:41 (eighteen years ago)

The Makers are not ska, but after a couple of drinks that crazy 3rd wave ska dance would look beautiful to a Makers jam.

nicky lo-fi, Sunday, 29 April 2007 08:04 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, there actually is a band called Mephiskapholes. Color me impressed.

The Reverend, Sunday, 29 April 2007 08:58 (eighteen years ago)

Streetlight Manifesto is a bad band name? Admit it, now you're just ignoring objective truths in order to prove your point. Ahem.
