the cure - fight

i'd never really acknowledged this song properly until quite recently, always considering it significantly lesser to other, more quintessential cure closers - 'faith', 'untitled', 'sinking', 'end' et al.

but beneath the surface triteness of the lyrics, there's a real directness and potency to the song's message and delivery. there's a sombre sense of hopelessness in the verse that's countered by the penetrating energy of the chorus. it's catchy and infectious, and i'm sure even motivational if played in a certain frame of mind. the vocals are impassioned and enthusiastic, but not over the top given the gravity of the subject matter.

i'll be sure to find a space for it on future cure playlists.

Dan to thread -- I know this is a particular favorite of his. (I tended to find it strident on initial blush but less so now.)

'strident' is a pretty good word to describe how i feel about it now.

usually it's the more poetic, visceral cure numbers that touch me.

but 'fight' has a real get-up-and-go quality, not entirely dissimilar to the streets' 'stay positive', that has had me thinking lately

The stridency is exactly what makes this song work so well, IMO.
