I am here to learns. What little I've heard of this stuff sounds like the NYC loft Wildflowers thing with a fatter bottom end, sorta avant-funk. But maybe I'm hearing the wrong stuff.

What's with Coleman's conceptual scheme? MBASE is "a non-western conception of how to use music to express experience"? "This music is unique primarily in the areas of spiritual, rhythmic and melodic development." What's he talking about and should I bother trying to understand it or just dig the tunes?

Vijay Iyer's "M-BASE & Collectivism" calls M-BASE a "an approach to creativity" rather than a musical style.

Coleman has a pretty sizable chunk of his own catalog available for download on his website, which I thought was cool/interesting. I'll be doing some listening this week.

Thoughts?
