Now that I look back the Siobhan period singles are absolutely ace - and the Amelle ones are quite horrid.

danzig, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

RUN FOR COVER 4EVA

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

unfair on amelle i think - she hasn't really been present for a sugababes album proper. she was the best thing about the otherwise awful 'easy'

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

it's true - she was also the best thing on "walk this way."

danzig, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

sexy ass, new dimension etc.

blueski, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

So obviously Overload.

chap, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

Big drop in quality here I think, late period Sugababes = snore. I didn't even "get" The Red Dress which loads of ppl went mad for.

I voted for Round Round.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

Everything after "Push The Button" I could do without, but everything before is pretty great.

danzig, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

Was "Follow Me Home" even a single?

I voted "Freak Like Me". "Overload" might be my least favourite from One Touch, they're all so good!

Groke, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

the only "dip" starts with 'easy' - it's not even a cause for concern, it's a greatest hits bonus track and a charity cover. 'ugly', 'red dress' and 'follow me home' are all great, def better than 'shape' and 'in the middle' for example.

'follow me home' got to no 34 or something, tom :( mutya was apparently livid they'd re-released it with her vocals purged from it, as she'd written it for her daughter

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

Well, she still gets the royalties anyway.

Mark G, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

"In The Middle" is shit.

Groke, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

"i'm caught up in the middle / jumping through the riddle / I'm falling just a little tonight uh uh" - it's great and it's like the twin sister of Girls Aloud's "On A Round."

danzig, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

'too lost in you' has a great remix that i still haven't ID'd. 'red dress' remains great. 'shape' is the poorest.

blueski, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

Those lyrics REALLY REALLY annoy me Danzig! The tune is fine. I don't like "On A Round" either though.

Groke, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

blimey me and lex in agreeing shock. RUN 4 COVER 4 LIFE BITCHZ.

(also overload. obv)

Alan, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)

Voted "Push The Button", but "Stronger" and "Round Round" are great too. Same about "Hole In The Head". The only Sugababes hits I have disliked are the ones who have been either cover versions of sample based.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

freak like me

groovemaaan, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

I picked "Run for Cover" but it was a real toss-up between that and "Freak Like Me".

I really don't like anything they've released after Mutya left. danzig otm, it's not so much that Amelle is bad, rather the songs themselves aren't as great as anything that came before.

Roz, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, there was another reason why I started this thread - has anybody heard the new Siobhan and new Mutya? I've only heard the Groove Armada track and it's quite sublime. Mutya makes a nice muse to the dance producers the way that Sophie worked really well with Spiller.

danzig, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

The new Siobhan track is quite interesting, but I've yet to decide if it's actually good (I like the verses better than the chorus).

chap, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

Groove Armada w/Mutya - amazing.

Mutya on own w/Kravitz sample - rotten.

Groke, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

groove armada and mutya = very good but not great (everything good about it is due to mutya, she makes it good despite clunky groove armada)
mutya solo single = pleasant but dull
siobhan solo single = pleasant but even more dull, entirely unmemorable

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

so I dragged myself off to youtube to investigate:

Mutya's single is mighty disappointing. She's mining the same territory as "Ugly." I always thought Mutya was sass embodied and this is just meh.

Siobhan, on the other hand, has transformed herself into a cross between Kate Bush and Roisin Murphy. The song itself could be stronger -but the video is something to behold. she'll probably flop again though.

danzig, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

Siobhan's latest album is amazing...Mutya's is just okay, but it was smart to use a sample-based song as a lead single as it will will definitely get plenty of radio support. The Groove Armada song is definitely the kicker single though.

Follow Me Home was a single, but the single version used Amelle's vocals instead of Mutya's and it was awful.

I voted for Hole in the Head, no question, really.

musically, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

siobhan already flopped. it peaked at 42 or something the other week

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

It's gotta be "Soul Sound"!

I spent the first year of their existence complaining that they were an indie listener's idea of a pop band, and here I go voting for their most indie moment!

Tim F, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

Gotta add that "Walk This Way" is absolutely godawful, and I hope it isn't any kind of hint as to what their future material will sound like.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

The rule is always that charity singles never count against an artist, only for an artist.

musically, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

waht?

blueski, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

Freak Like Me, but it's close.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

My experience was actually the opposite - I remember thinking that Sugababes were the indiest thing I was listening to then, and "Overload" was my entry point into Indie and Coldplay. I've since regressed.

danzig, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

not familiar enough with their stuff to vote, but I love their Arctic Monkeys cover--is it not a single?

sw00ds, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

bside, wasn't it?

Mark G, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

yes, bside to "Red Dress"

danzig, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

thanks.

this is one poll that will actually come in useful, as I will likely make a point of checking out the ones that come in near the top (I think the only other one I've heard is "Freak Like Me").

sw00ds, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:59 (eighteen years ago)

maybe i should've voted 'freak like me'. it brought them back from THE DUMPER and they've never looked back since.

blueski, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

sw00ds, you should check out most of the singles! there are only 4 really duff ones.

POV sugababes album tracsk:

POO sugababes bsides:

Someone In My Bed (I think it was Popular that introduced this one to me - thanks Tom)

danzig, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

er, I meant NYLPM

danzig, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 11:23 (eighteen years ago)

I'm stoked!

sw00ds, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 11:33 (eighteen years ago)

"Someone In My Bed" is fantastic! Should have been a single even.

My POV album tracks is exactly the same as Lex I think, except i'd probably swap in "Two Hearts" over "Bruised" (which is also great). I'm also probably the only person who loves "Sometimes".

Tim F, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 11:57 (eighteen years ago)

'hole in the head', very narrowly beating out 'round round'.

That one guy that quit, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:01 (eighteen years ago)

bump - vote before you lose your chance

danzig, Friday, 4 May 2007 05:04 (eighteen years ago)

It's really unfortunate that Siobhan's single peaked so low. It's a bit understandable though as the song has been floating online since last year. Hopefully her album will at least crack the top 40 (although that leaked about a month or so ago and it's getting released in June).

Sugababes' version of I bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor > Arctic's version, definitely.

musically, Friday, 4 May 2007 05:18 (eighteen years ago)

Sugababes' version of I bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor > Arctic's version, definitely.

Doesn't take much though. Out of all those new postpunk influenced UK rock bands, Arctic Monkeys are the ones least deserving of all the attention. The title of their debut album was OTM.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 4 May 2007 08:26 (eighteen years ago)

So "Overload" it is then. yipee. I pretty much agree with the order. But who the hell voted for "Walk This Way"?

danzig, Sunday, 6 May 2007 05:02 (eighteen years ago)

overload is indie

That one guy that quit, Sunday, 6 May 2007 09:47 (eighteen years ago)

i mean "an old ilx staple"

That one guy that quit, Sunday, 6 May 2007 09:47 (eighteen years ago)

I'm gonna say the Christmas one, or Round Round. Easy's pretty great though...

I know, right?, Sunday, 6 May 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

Sugababes are indie

braveclub, Sunday, 6 May 2007 17:51 (eighteen years ago)

New Year, that's what it was called.

I know, right?, Sunday, 6 May 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but they are good indie...
