it's those bbc sessions they did that you used to be able to find on double bootleg vinyl. my pal larry lotto made me a tape of the bootleg vinyl in 1988 and i can't even tell you how many times i've listened to it. track-listing:

let there be more light

murderistic women

point me at the sky

embryo

julia dream

green is the colour

careful with that ax eugene

one of these days

if

atom heart mother suite

echoes

it sounds like acid. it drips with the stuff. it kinda gives me flashbacks. it's great if you are stoned too though. or even sober. the way they recorded it...man, it's just so cool. i never even looked this stuff up. never knew the dates or what the deal was. never looked to see if i could get it on cd. i remember EXACTLY where i was when i last saw a vinyl copy and it's a big regret of mine that i didn't pick it up. this was years ago. it was 20 bucks. great shape too. i guess i was watching my pennies. i still listen to the tape! i'm playing it now! "If"! ahhhhhh, so many acid warriors should play that before they pick up a guitar. it might scare some of them straight and spare us their fumblings. i like every version better than any studio version. was this stuff ever put out legally? i am no pink floyd scholar. it goes on my list of top 100 rock things. for sure.

hahaha, i am telling people that pink floyd might sound good if you are stoned. hahahaha, who AM i, anyway?

scott seward, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:32 (seventeen years ago) link

That's exactly the (post-Syd) Pink Floyd stuff i'd expect any sensible person to like!

Tom D., Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Is it actually BBC sessions tho? Live recordings?

Tom D., Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I still wonder why these don't get official release.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:38 (seventeen years ago) link

No doubt Floyd themselves, spoilsports

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

They don't even like "Ummagumma", so what do they know?

Tom D., Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Damn, now I'm curious about 'em. From the "I'll bet you'll never guess" I was all willing to come in here with a "Division Bell?"

I think that track list is from the "Top Gear" sessions they did from 68-70. I haven't seen "Murderistic Women" or "Julia Dream" showing up from other places.

Man, I'd love to hear it. I have the two Paris Cinema Peel hosted sets they did in 70 & 71. Those are pretty amazing, but don't have those early songs.

70 set list:
Embryo
Fat Old Sun
Green Is The Colour
Careful With That Axe Eugene
If
Atom Heart Mother

71 set list:
Fat Old Sun
One Of These Days
Embryo
Echoes
Blues

If there's one thing I miss about the vinyl-era it's crappy bootlegs with home-brew art and incorrect/pun titles.

DimeADozen can't hold a candle to them

yea atom heart is one of my top 3 fer sher. glad to hear an If mention Scott, heard a diss a while back and was horrified. just so simple and pretty.

i don't know where the original tapes came from - or if someone just taped it off of the radio? - but i can't stress enough how great these sessions SOUND. atom heart mother is with full choir and orchestra too. so amazing. i miss the drift and spaciousness of this era floyd. before they were bitter...

scott seward, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 21:32 (seventeen years ago) link

ugh that sounds so nice, full choir and orchestra? ridic!!

Comments: The LP is *very* clean. They are from bbc/rainbow theatre and were mostly aired on the John Peel show. I believe this was the first public performance of Echoes under that name. -OSO

My 'book' says: source BBC Session 68-70, but OSO's info seems more realistic, consiedered the perfect "Echoes". -PIET

Echoes lacks the beginning -GJC
