Was just discussing whether they are allowed on the "best rock bands from Orstraillia" thread, which is why I'm listening to Blurred Crusade right now, and voting for it.

Because "When You Were Mine" is their rockin'-est track that I've heard - but then I only know the first 7 albums.

mrlynch, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 05:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, oh, this was a difficult decision. I mean, the patently obvious rockist answer would be Starfish, and it is one of those rare instances where the breakthrough/popular record is actually amazingly good. But I went with the almost ambient aural soundscapes of Seance. Coz, it's, like, the most Goff or something. ;-)

Priest. Obviously.

SeekAltRoute, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 11:23 (seventeen years ago) link

everything after Priest = Aura kind of sounds the same to me, so it's probably Priest

akm, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:11 (seventeen years ago) link

P=A by far, but Heyday and Forget Yourself are close behind.

great band through and through, i love everything up to Magician Among the Spirits and haven't heard anything newer...someday, though

their best album: Starfish, obv.

my favorite album (and the one i voted for): The Blurred Crusade

Heyday is a very, very special album to me. It's one of the only two albums I have both on CD and on vinyl. So, so pretty. Can listen to it when I'm in any mood, at any time.

Definitely voted for it, even though I've only heard Heyday, Priest, and Starfish.

I'm listening to "The View" right now. YAY CHURCH.

babyalive, Thursday, 3 May 2007 02:02 (seventeen years ago) link

PS can we please talk about seeing the Church live and what an exhilarating experience that is?

babyalive, Thursday, 3 May 2007 02:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Phwooaarr! Yah, I'm with ya there. For a band who are so textured and intricate on record they sure rock the house down live.

Steve Kilbey channeling the spirit of Marissa on his blog...

mike t-diva, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh dear. I learned a long time ago, never read the blogs of artists you like. It's better not to know. Kilbey's always been a bit of a weirdo, though. But that's what makes him an interesting artist.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:15 (seventeen years ago) link

It's between Heyday and Priest for me. Priest is a bit too long and consistent in tempo, and Heyday is such a wonderful soundworld of jangly 2gtr goodness. Heyday it i;, I wish they had three or four more like it.

Jon Lewis, Thursday, 3 May 2007 15:16 (seventeen years ago) link

RE: blog, I'll only start worrying if those become lyrics on the next album.

babyalive, Thursday, 3 May 2007 20:01 (seventeen years ago) link

If Priest wins, I'll be happy. If Heyday wins I'll be happy...if X other album out of left field wins, I'll still be happy. Etc.

Bimble, Sunday, 6 May 2007 21:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Actually I bet Starfish wins. Right? That would be predictable, eh?

The suspense is killing me.

Bimble, Sunday, 6 May 2007 21:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I voted for Priest+Aura because ....hell, just look up the other
Church threads for my reason(s).

Capitaine Jay Vee, Monday, 7 May 2007 06:06 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't choose. Blurred Crusade, Forget Yourself, ...Like The Clouds, Preist=Aura, Starfish, and even El Momento Descuidado could all be at the top of the list on any given day. I'd have to stew on this one, but damn, what a great band!

christoff, Monday, 7 May 2007 16:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Woohoo! Priest wins!!! *does happy dance*

And actually Heyday is a nice choice for second place. It really is flawless.

Bimble, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 03:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Bump

Bimble, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 05:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Wow, I thought Starfish would get more love than just 2 votes.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 05:37 (seventeen years ago) link

i voted for sometime anywhere. one more and it would have beat starfish! darn.

f. hazel, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 07:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Indeed, I was thinking Starfish would be the obvious choice.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 09:12 (seventeen years ago) link

too obvious!
