The Best ABC single from the 80s (Closes 6. May)

I didn't bother to include their post 1990 singles, as it'd take a lot of investigation to find all of them and they probably wouldn't have received any votes anyway. So I make this an 80s poll instead.

Certainly this is a race between the "Lexicon Of Love" singles?

I mean, even though "SOS" and "Be Near Me" may probably receive some love too.

My vote for "The Look Of Love".

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

Today, my vote goes to "All Of My Heart."

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

I went for 'Poison Arrow'. This is a really tricky one.

braveclub, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

"Poison Arrow" for-ever!

JN$OT, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:06 (eighteen years ago)

What do you think I voted for?

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

I couldn't possibly begin to guess...the Vice Versa EP? ;-)

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

Haha!

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

Poison Arrow, The Look Of Love and All Of My Heart are indivisible - but Dr.C's piece on All Of My Heart is immortal, so that's where my vote's going.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 11:12 (eighteen years ago)

still think "Date Stamp" would have made for a better single than "All Of My Heart"...I'm going with "Tears"...

henry s, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:19 (eighteen years ago)

Still bloody ruins me, that record. Every single time. All the great times and miserable times come flooding back in glorious technicolour with every syllable that Fry utters.

I say this all time on here - but it really, really is THE BEST RECORD EVER MADE.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for "The Look of Love" because of the ol' ecstatic build thing at the end, but I just want to point out, once again, that Beauty Stab remains underrated and is a good record despite all the (inevitable Geir) hatred. If "S.O.S." was on Lexicon it'd get mad love around here.

I was the editor of my high school newspaper and gave myself a music review column. In it, I awarded dual "Album of the Year" awards to Lexicon and Security. (I was going through a Brit thing.) Might not do the same now, but I received props from a lot of our new wave grrrlz for loving ABC. (I also gave Adrian Belew the "Artist of the Year" award.)

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:04 (eighteen years ago)

Security???

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

xpost, Dr. C:

I'd agree, but for the inclusion of the drab "2gether 4ever"...

henry s, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

Can't see "Date Stamp" as a single. I like its sneak preview of "Relax" though.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:07 (eighteen years ago)

Was "15 Story Halo" not a single? If not, surely their greatest deep cut.

Mark Rich@rdson, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

x-post I was talking about AOMH, henry. But it could apply to the album too. I love 2gether 4ever too!

Dimension OTM about the Beauty Stab though - a cracking album.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

I'm in a snarky mood, so I'll pick "How To Be A Millionaire" (a second cousint to the PSB's "Opportunities"?), even though I'll be in an "All of My Heart" mood later.

In it, I awarded dual "Album of the Year" awards to Lexicon and Security

the Peter Gabriel record?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

It was just called Peter Gabriel IV here.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

David Geffen didn't do eponymous...

henry s, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

I used to have a vinyl copy that skipped madly on '2gether 4ever' so it would go TOGETHER FORETHER TOGETHER FORETOGERATHEAR TOGETERHER FOROEORAORETHOEROEHTOERHOEHOTRERER

braveclub, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

This is a classic example of where "Best Single" won't get an interesting ranking, whereas Pick 5 Of These might - anyway it's Poison Arrow so there.

Groke, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

xpost:

so did Todd Edwards...

'all of my heart', so swoonsome

This is not the Rick Astley thread.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:52 (eighteen years ago)

Astley did not skip madly in the video for "Together Forever."

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha, BUT WHAT IF HE HAD?

Yes, the fourth Peter Gabriel album was called Security over here, that's the way I think of it. I listened to it for the first time in a very long time the other day, not sure it's held up as well as The Lexicon of Love, but that's an unfair comparison anyway.

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

Admittedly it is difficult to skip madly when your feet are nailed to the floor, as was the case with poor Rick.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

OMG is the Lexicon of Love not the best album of all time?

ilxor, Saturday, 4 April 2009 07:11 (sixteen years ago)

"All of My Heart" beat "Poison Arrow"? Truly, there is no God.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 5 April 2009 12:23 (sixteen years ago)

There are some who thought "All of My Heart" was an abomination. I was not one of them, but I imagine they are looking at this poll in horror right now.

Naive Teen Idol, Sunday, 5 April 2009 16:30 (sixteen years ago)

The correct result would have been "Look Of Love" on top, but "All Of My Heart" > "Poison Arrow".

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 5 April 2009 16:35 (sixteen years ago)

Wrong
