i'm sure one of those creeps from the rolling teenpop thread would rep for these guys:

Cartel's Band In a Bubble Experiment
It seems part commercial hype and part socio-cultural experiment. On May 24, 2007, the band Cartel, who recently hit the pop charts with the single "Honestly," will be sealed inside a giant transparent bubble on Hudson River Park's Pier 54 in New York. There the band will spend nearly 3 weeks eating, sleeping, and working on a new album. Cameras will record the entire process for public viewing. On June 12, 2007, the bubble will burst, and the band is scheduled to appear to play live the new material for the new album they have created.

The whole grand event is sponsored by Dr. Pepper, and the web cams will stream live at Dr. Pepper's Band In a Bubble official site. MTV is also getting in on the act. The network is making a special reality series of the process available for on-demand viewing at MTV.com.

Will Cartel generate a worthy follow up to "Honestly"? Will we get to hear the band singing the "I'm a Pepper, you're a Pepper..." song? Or will it all just end up as empty hype? Tune in May 24th!

how can you do drugs in a bubble in public on tv? how will they write new songs? will they have internet?

lfam, Thursday, 3 May 2007 06:40 (eighteen years ago)

regurgitator already did this. i don't remember if the resulting album was any good

electricsound, Thursday, 3 May 2007 06:42 (eighteen years ago)

As it was the 'Gurge, there's no doubt it was appalling.

Drooone, Thursday, 3 May 2007 06:45 (eighteen years ago)

Haha yeah thats right Regurgitator did this like, a year or 2 ago now. Maybe they can sue these dudes =)

Trayce, Thursday, 3 May 2007 07:23 (eighteen years ago)

well the stunt is being pulled off by the same company so i don't think there'd be much point in that

electricsound, Thursday, 3 May 2007 07:58 (eighteen years ago)

How will they poop? And masturbate?

P.S. This is a good stunt because they're pretty.

Kevin John Bozelka, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:19 (eighteen years ago)

the public is so easily suckered into bullshit stunts like this. it's quite sad really.

Richard Wood Johnson, Thursday, 3 May 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

Do they have the most terribly designed Myspace in the history of the universe? I had to scroll a mile in both directions to find the content.

I dunno, I think it sounds kind of fun.

Lefsetz hates stunts but loves Alice Cooper.

"When is the last you heard of a band that has a top 40 single on the radio that also had a 12 minute finale that went through about 4 different movements and turned 5 different choruses from the previous songs into a medley reprise at the end. If there is such an artist I haven’t heard of them"..................................ummm...uhhh

Christ. I dont know if we'll need the thousands of posts that are about to ensue. Let's just all agree that those two essays make some of the most insane/inane assumptions ever.

i like a good stunt too, but also Alice and co. wrote some of the best rock songs ever to back it up.

it worked! i'm listening to Cartel on their website right now. Good lord this shit sucks ass.

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 3 May 2007 23:49 (eighteen years ago)

I know it's a major longshot, but...

What if Cartel came out of that bubble with the best pop-rock album since Abbey Road?

Mark Rich@rdson, Thursday, 3 May 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

then it would be awesome!

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 3 May 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

critical self-awareness would keep ILM from noticing

lfam, Friday, 4 May 2007 00:25 (eighteen years ago)

i can't believe they inserted a needle-drop/scratchy vinyl bit at the beginning of their single... what are they saying with it?

lfam, Friday, 4 May 2007 00:31 (eighteen years ago)

and is it art?

JW, Friday, 4 May 2007 02:37 (eighteen years ago)

David Blaine is a time-traveling demon.

Mordechai Shinefield, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

that cartel frontman response was the most depressing thing i've read in a long time.
