this song has fantastic lyrics

when did hetfield lose his vocabulary and turn into the worst, most incompetent lyricist ever?

Bang your head against the stage
Like you never did before
Make it ring Make it bleed
Make it really sore

I remember watching Some Kind Of Monster for the first time and thinking "Were these guys always such idiots?" I just think Hetfield doesn't try anymore. The lyrics on both Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All were rather decent for the time, from what I recall.

In SKOM they all sat around each writing one line at a time. WORST LYRIC WRITING TECHNIQUE EVAR. I think the most awesomely horrible line was "my lifestyle determines my deathstyle."

I wonder about this every time Metallica puts out a new album. Is it that the booze finally caught up to him, or did he only have a finite number of stellar lyrics to contribute to the world? My money's on the former.

I remember thinking at the time that the Black Album was a step down lyrically with it's nursery-rhyme quotes and "couldn't be much more from the heart" and "I dub thee unforgiven."

Boy, I'd take another "Nothing Else Matters" over "Saint Anger 'round my neck/You flush it out/You flush it out" any day.

"yeah, i guess the whole things gone to the dogs when lars has valuable input into the lyrics"

If only they'd let every lyric he contributed just be him shouting "LARS!" I would have bought anything they put out with that formula.
