Couple of years ago, split off from Gabber in Holland. Been quite popular in more and more clubs in the Benelux from then on and is kinda leaving the underground now, even.

A classic video: "somewhere in East-Flanders" (part of Belgium)

I remember hearing these god awful "hardstyle" tracks on sites like sector-one, I just never knew the dance was so big with the kids over there. Hours of entertainment.

i don't understand what everyone's problem is with this. there's nothing wrong with expressing yourself through dance.

to clarify i have no beef with it. it sounds a lot like this i think and that is always a plus.

This is cool but I can't help but feel like it's just the Belgian version of "hardcore dancing."

Well "hardcore dancing" is only really tenuously related to the rhythm of the music (sometimes even continues at times when there's a stop in the song, technical fault etc.) and is more about being a macho asshole swinging feet and elbows dangerously near bystanders.

Motor-scooter one is the apex.

Like the gabber-dance, in glorious history-repeating fashion, it's already banned in clubs all around the country. "Jump Is Not A Crime" t-shirts are on sale.

The style has had amazing mileage, there's a whole history behind Jump (the people behind the first wave in 1996, Da Boy Tommy et al, are already married with children - the silly dance came later) but the kids don't care.

"This reminds me of riverdance"

StanM, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

Siegbran, Saturday, 26 May 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

this looks like clogging and is, thus, awesome.
Moped video is straight classic.

Hardstyle is the scene that refuses to die.

'Freeform Hardcore' is worth searching too.

Hardstyle is probably the most popular dance genre in my neck o'the woods :(
