debyt for me with dream police a surprising second place

m coleman, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

Interesting, seeing as I was just listening to In Color and Heaven Tonight back to back this evening.

Gotta go with the latter though.

"Surrender" conquors all.

JN$OT, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

conquers even

JN$OT, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

"Surrender" is still my favourite song, but In Color for stuff like "Downed," "Southern Girls," "Come on, Come On"--I don't recall a bad cut on that album (whereas HT has its share of filler. I need to be better acquainted with the first one and Dream Police, however. Am I correct in assuming it's all downhill from there? I don't like ANY of the later radio hits.

Dream Police is the last good record, though rumours say the last one,Rockford,is quite good.

and the debut is the best if u ask me

Zeno, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:35 (eighteen years ago)

I need to get the debut & Dream Police myself. Never heard any of their post-'70s albums. Although Chuck and others may possibly rep for One on One and All Shook Up.

JN$OT, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

the debut is totally groundbreaking and ahead of it's time (add more cliche's if you like - they are all true) - with it's power pop meets metal meets punk meets pre-steve albini guitars/production style (with the bass and drums often high in the mix)

Zeno, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

i voted for dream police predictably enuf but all shook up and the debut and heaven tonight are all very close

Dimension 5ive, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

The debut is the best. But where is the 1997 "Cheap Trick" record, the one with Hard To Tell?

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 5 May 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going with Heaven Tonight. And people who insist Dream Police is the last good record have apparently never heard All Shook Up, which I would easily take over not only Dream Police (which I do like), but also over In Color (which I also like, but which I've always wished rocked a lot harder.)

(One To One is also not bad, by the way.)

xhuxk, Saturday, 5 May 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)

Where's the option for "I'm British, never heard them"

bidfurd, Saturday, 5 May 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

Went for "Heaven Tonight" although everything they did from 1977 until around 1980 was great.

Any votes for The Doctor should be disqualified as pure trolling.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 5 May 2007 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

In Color. But the first five are all perfect rock albums. In Color being the best example. In Color owns every Aerosmith and Kiss record ever made.

Manalishi, Saturday, 5 May 2007 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

Debut for me. In Color comes close; but I have NEVER liked "I Want You To Want Me" in any version.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Sunday, 6 May 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)

Me neither, that song put me off searching out anything else by Cheap Trick for a long time - it's their only song that went top 40 in the UK. I guess I owe Big Black for belatedly getting into them.

I'm going for the debut, but I agree with Chuck that Dream Police is not the last decent album - All Shook Up is good! I haven't listened to anything after that though.

Colonel Poo, Sunday, 6 May 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

ive only ever heard he's a whore

600, Sunday, 6 May 2007 12:13 (eighteen years ago)

gotta go with the debut. the only thing that puts it over in color for me is the production. in color sounds horribly claustrophobic.

and music for hangovers, imho, puts budokan to shame. it really shouldn't, but it does.

Lawrence the Looter, Sunday, 6 May 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

not surprising i'd say

Zeno, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

"Cheap Trick" was only the beginning. Sure it's better than everything they've released after 1980, but it was a bit too raw and unfinished still. I prefer the ones from "In Color" through "Dream Police".
