Bruce Haack you need the Electric Lucifer record first up, that's thee fucking shit.

Deerhoof I'd say try out Milkman and Apple O' first; the former displays enough of their range for you to know if they're for you, the latter has some of their best noisier playful stuff. Their classic is The Runners Four; a pop masterpiece. The newie is also excellent but needs more growing time.

Wrong Time Capsule and Spirit Ditties Of No Tone off TRF are probably my two favourite Deerhoof songs.

brill! thanks a million.

Runners Four seconded, though some of my OG Deerhoof pals would insist otherwise.

Moondog 1&2 has most everything on there, and is readily on SLSK (I wouldn't necessarily buy it, but I stole my copy from my brother who didn't appreciate it, and I think that's about the exact amount of effort it's worth).

Deerhoof— Milkman and Apple O' are the perfect points to start out at; I think there are diminishing returns past that, but on Deerhoof reasonable men may differ.

Bruce Haack— Electric Lucifer and Bite are the ones I have, and I'd start with Lucifer, but they're both kinda goofy novelty records.

thanks for all the suggestions. looks like i'm about to obliterate my carefully accrued OiNK ratio. tralalalalalala.

The Runners Four is a great pop-psych record; a different beast to the other stuff, more 'songy' but full of tunes to die for. Take a bit of a while to fall for it but there's shitloads of amazing stuff on there.

If you don't like her voice then obviously don't bother.

Electric Lucifer is amazing. I'd recommend buying it so you get the full insanity of the liner notes. Just recently heard some of his stuff for kids and that's pretty wonderfully strange too, but probably not the best starting point.

Electric Lucifer seconded/thirded/ninthed/whatever.
I don't like Deerhoof much these days; the last record of theirs I got into was "Reveille."
I would suggest the new, expansive double set of Moondog stuff on Honest John's. It's all rarities like singles etc that never made it onto the LPs. Very diverse and very awesome.

spirit ditties of no tone is the best deerhoof song ever
