Ah, am so glad this came up 'cause I wasn't sure where to post about my new favorite song of all time, "Sandy Mary" by Fleetwood Mac (one of those tracks where Peter Green was moving towards a really interesting psych-blues territory).

It didn't even get a studio version as far as I can tell (could be very wrong about that...). The version on the BBC Sessions manages to sound like T Rex, Cream, Hendrix and The Beatles at various times, and I'm starting to think it's the best track on that CD. T Rex riff to open, verse is along the lines of one of the Beatles White Album blues raveups, very Cream sounding guitar solo, etc. Only real problem is that I want to hear a 25 minute long version a la Rattlesnake Shake.

The White Stripes could probably score pretty big with a cover of this...

Oh, and the BBC version pretty much kills the live in Boston version.

I think "Shut Out the Light", B-side to "Born in the USA", is one of the 10 best songs Springsteen ever wrote.

At any given time, I can be struck that any given track from 1967-71 Kinks is the best thing they ever did. But for today, I'll say "Death of a CLown."

The Who - "Water" and "Naked Eye"

heaven by the stones is well known and regarded, no?

as for my answer,

les savy fav - hit my car (a real subdued, spacey song by these guys' standards. but effective and moody and great)

ride - here and now (not on most versions of nowhere to my knowledge, this is really melodic and hypnotising with a great vocal line)

The Beatles: You Won't See Me

The sixth grade music teacher made us sing this while tapping out the melody on tiny xylophones. It's always loomed large in my thought about the Beatle catalog. She was also really into Tomita version of the Overture from Tommy. She was Geir's kinda gal.
