The Shame Game

Replying to another post I happened to mention I had never listened to "Nevermind" in its entirety. Just like the Book Game of the same name, what is the classic record you are ashamed to admit you have never heard? I would tend to exclude "classic but cult" records such as "Trout Mask Replica" which are always listed as *best* records by rock crits but unknown to most, however feel free to ignore this. Being ever so gracious, I will let you begin.

Ziggy Stardust, Beggar's Banquet, Meat Is Murder, anything by My Bloody Valentine (not by choice, but by finance - their albums, because of our dollar, are now around 39 bucks), shit I'm sure there's more...

Already being discussed here if you're interested.

I just finally heard OK COMPUTER a few months ago. Before then, I had only heard a few songs here and there. That's baaaad.

Nothing is worse than having your band being continually compared to someone you've never heard: Per Ubu. Reviews/articles whatever. To this day, I've still never heard more than one or two songs. Don't they have like 20 albums or something? Sheesh, where do I start?!

I've never heard any Smiths albums, any Beatles albums (in full), any Cure albums, most punk albums, most rap albums, most soul albums...so hmmmm....I'm limited.

I disagree with the whole idea of thinking you *must* hear certain music, but probably Roxy Music's early albums in their entirety.

I get the feeling though when people say you 'must' hear something its usually in a "Poor diddums, you're missing out on something really special" way and not with some bizzare taste fascism intent. Getting back to the question though, I've never heard any albums by Bob Dylan (yes, really). Having said that though, I'm not too bothered, as my sixth-form nemesis liked him (the fellow in question being a white-sock-wearing acoustic-guitar-playing furry-sideburned git), so I can probably do without.

This'll make me seem like a REALLY major poseur to most ILM posters (or else just someone who you'd wonder, what the fuck are you doing here then?) but it's the cold truth - just about any "major" (y'know, pop or "mainstream" or "alternative" or whatever...anyway not "underground" or whatever you'd call it) album from after about, ummm lemme think, 1983 or so probably, except '80s Fall albums & a bunch of hip-hop stuff , I only got to hear the parts of 'em you get to hear when you're hanging out in shops & stuff. Didn't buy 'em, my friends didn't buy 'em, we didn't go to places where they got played or listen to radio stations that played 'em or anything.
So,uh, did I miss anything really good?
