Okay. maybe I'm exaggerating a bit.

But seriously listen, totally A Hard's Day Nightish chord ptogression, soaring chourus. cool instrumental break. Power pop before it existed.

Evie Sands...what a writer.

Certainly a classic. One of their many great singles. There's a lot of competition but definitely one of the best singles bands of the time and they seem one of the most purely pop bands, never successfully making the transition to being a 'rock' band like many of their contemporaries. Hence Nash leaving. At least that's the way I see them.

Not too fond of the chooging guitars at the start, but it's one of many good Hollies singles. Not their best though IMO.

The Hollies' version is OK, but Evie Sands' slower, more wrenching one is the bomb.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

sixteen years pass...

OTM. The original is much better.

As I said on the other thread, I believe it was another victim of the Red Bird fiasco.

Love the original, pretty sure it’s on the One Kiss box

Evie Sands so underrated. I was listening to a sampling of her records from several decades of recordings from the 1960s to the present a few years back and it's consistently strong and inventive (Any Way that You Want Me and Estate of Mind are good starting points). As for "I Can't Let Go", I've never heard the Hollies version but Linda Rondstadt's hit rendition from the Mad Love album is excellent.
