Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

there are others which are more clever or more wtf, but none are quite as banging as 'trancentral'. so, 'trancentral'.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 08:48 (eighteen years ago)

On an old mixtape, I had one hell of an edit from "Burn the bastards" into Dirty Den's New Year speech (as per the album version) into Marquee ChaCha the Fall. Trust me, it was brilliant!

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 08:55 (eighteen years ago)

bill drummond's "king of joy" single

electricsound, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 08:55 (eighteen years ago)

YEAH!

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:11 (eighteen years ago)

Hard to choose just one, but the Tammy Wynette version "Justified And Ancient" has got to be one of the greatest/funniest records ever made.

JN$OT, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:19 (eighteen years ago)

"Justified And Ancient". Tammy Wynette brought the band something that they otherwise lacked.

Love "It's Grim Up North" too though.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:22 (eighteen years ago)

but... but... It has no melody!

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:24 (eighteen years ago)

"it's grim up north", for too many reasons to list.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:26 (eighteen years ago)

but... but... It has no melody!

"Justified And Ancient" does. :)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:29 (eighteen years ago)

"Grim" I meant.

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:33 (eighteen years ago)

It's got "Jerusalem" at the end, though.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

Wot, no Disco 2000?

It's between Whitney Joins The JAMMs and Justified And Ancient. I shall take that secret to the ballot box.

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:42 (eighteen years ago)

I knew I'd missed out at least one.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:46 (eighteen years ago)

Disco 2000 was the artist (a female duo)

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:47 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Disco 2000 were Drummond/Cauty's attempt at doing a "subversive" Mel & Kim. Two singles: "I Gotta CD" and "One Love Nation". Prefer the latter. Saw 'em live at the 1988 Pride Festival.

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 10:12 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry, three singles - forgot their cover of "Uptight".

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

3AM Eternal - BEEP BOOP BOOP BEEEP! KLF IS GONNA ROCK YA!

the next grozart, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

Downtown. I just love the rap. And the video was great.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

"What Time is Love?"

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:10 (eighteen years ago)

there's big differences between the trance orig, white room and america vers of "What Time Is Love," but they all rule so: my vote goes there

sexyDancer, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

America version not so good, but I voted for it anyway.

Drummond's "True to the Trail" is also excellent, one of the greatest road songs ever!

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

America: What Time Is Love should be in it's own category but whatever.

Belisarius, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

the "It's 3 AeeeMMMMMM... THHREEE AAEEEEMMMMMM..." version of "3 A.M. Eternal" is soooooo much better than the "KLF is gonna rock you!" version of "3 A.M. Eternal"

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 19:55 (eighteen years ago)

Doctorin' the Tardis

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

I'd be surprised if there were a-one vote for "Kylie Said To Jason"...(it certainly won't happen here, 'cos I'm going with "Trancentral"...from Allen Toussaint to the Monkees to KLF...who don't love them a good "last train" song?)...

henry s, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

xp: yeah but there's something to the video with the rapper guy dialing in the "melody" on his giant cell phone, intoning the immortal phrase, then cutting to him cruising the wasteland with KLF boys in Ford Timelord.

sexyDancer, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 20:14 (eighteen years ago)

never saw that video...I guess context is everything...glad to hear they drive a Ford...

oh, and Al Stewart's "Time Passages", another great last train song...

henry s, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

We now return you to your regularly scheduled KLF/JAMMS thread.

henry s, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

IT'S GRIM UP NORTH

HI DERE, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 20:29 (eighteen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

Kylie Said would have been my erm fifth choice or so. But I really like it!

(Voted for Transcentral, wish I'd voted for Grim Up North)

Groke, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

justified bump

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 07:51 (eighteen years ago)

It's got "Jerusalem" at the end, though.

not on the PROPER version w/ Pete Wylie on vox

energy flash gordon, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

My copy of "It's Grim Up North" got melted ;__;

So it gets a memorial vote.

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

I wish I'd voted for Grim Up North in retrospect now. It's mad that a song like that could get in the charts - it's just barmy noise - you can barely hear the beat behind it, and then JERUSALEM.

the next grozart, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

I love love love the 9 minute version of "America: What Time Is Love?", but don't like the trance mix of "What Time Is Love?" at all! You should've put them in different categories, it's kinda hard to vote now.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

well you don't HAVE to y'know

blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but the former is my favourite KLF tune ever. I don't see why they should be lumped together, since they have nothing in common except the chorus (even the raps are different, right?).

Tuomas, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

you and your long boats

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

the trance mix of WTIL is instrumental and is used as the basis for both the "live" version, the "america" version as well as "fuck the millienium" for that matter

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

instrumental except for the "EWE" samples, of course

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

"Fuck The Millenium" is underrated. I suspect a lot of people haven't got around to listening to the full version very often, if at all, which is too bad because it's kinda awesome. I'm with Tuomas though: "America, What Time Is Love" is the ultimate KLF experience for me.

everything, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

the trance mix of WTIL is instrumental and is used as the basis for both the "live" version, the "america" version as well as "fuck the millienium" for that matter

Ah, okay, I was talking about this version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2neb4rFPGCo

Don't know what it's called, but the "America" one definitely beats it.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

I even love the crowd noises at the end of the nine minute version... "Are those guys for real? I mean whats with all this justified ancients of Mu Mu shit?"

Tuomas, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

yeah that's the "Live at Transcentral" or "White Room" or "Stadium House" version(s).
The "America" version would have been the bridge to the abandoned "Black Room" techno-metal LP.

re: they're totally for real. Read a few of Bill Drummond's books.

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

wait, don't. I forgot about your "problem."

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

Huh?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

Some songs are gorgeous. Some songs are funny. Few songs are both. The Tammy Wynette "Justified and Ancient" is both.

Kevin John Bozelka, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

Great cover for the US version of "America.."

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

My legendary what? Just because I'm a sceptic doesn't mean I can't enjoy some bullshit about lost continents.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

More specifically it's about how they, the JAMMs, discovered America in 992AD. "Some bullshit" OTM.

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

closing date tomorrow bump

Those closing remarks on "America: What Time Is Love?" were the best thing Voice Of The Beehive ever recorded.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 10 May 2007 07:49 (eighteen years ago)

seems like J Cauty has put up a wealth of KLF goodies onna youtube...

sexyDancer, Thursday, 10 May 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

I agree the two versions of "What Time Is Love" must be counted as two different songs. Not that I would have voted for any of them (although the trance one is among their best IMO), but I see that there aren't a lot of similarities at all.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 10 May 2007 12:18 (eighteen years ago)

"two" versions, arf.

the Stadium House versions and Pure Trance versions are completely different (though not as different as various America versions from either). and klfcommunications.net is a fansite, not an official Cauty presence (cauty.co.uk is run by Simon, though).

energy flash gordon, Thursday, 10 May 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

orly hmmm. thrown off by the "musician" tag

sexyDancer, Thursday, 10 May 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 10 May 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

...as expected.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 11 May 2007 06:32 (eighteen years ago)

Only two "novoteds"

Nice result!
