Based on Q's year-end list. This is a bit a result of The Lex's request, although he probably would have preferred another mag ;)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:08 (eighteen years ago)

And voted for Depeche Mode

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:09 (eighteen years ago)

"James Runt – Back To Boredom"

Oh, Geirpaws.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

i still havent heard Aerial, but, i could easily put the other 49 lps back on the shelf, and smoke a blunt, and dial 917 160 49311

600, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:16 (eighteen years ago)

XP LOL, in fact that joke must have been a joke by the Rocklist.net guy. I didn't notice, but it fits perfectly as a description. :)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:19 (eighteen years ago)

If you look at the Q Top 50 and pretend no other music existed, 2005 was a quite nice year. :)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:19 (eighteen years ago)

Q?????????????????????????????????

peepee, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:20 (eighteen years ago)

Sure, Q always has the best year-end lists.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:22 (eighteen years ago)

aerial is a masterpiece so that obv but there's a good 6-7 other things here i'd've been happy going with! madge, kanye, MIA, roisin...er ok that's pretty much it.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:22 (eighteen years ago)

actually somewhat pleasantly surprised to find roisin here at all!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:22 (eighteen years ago)

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

You know, Q's year-end lists are the 50 best albums from all genres, not just guitar pop. So there are maybe around 5-10 albums from other (obviously inferior) genres that they consider worthy for inclusion.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

yeah! ALL genres! INCLUDING indie-dance!

Frogman Henry, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:27 (eighteen years ago)

but geir this list doesnt include any good albums (with possible exception of aerial)

600, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

Bruce Springsteen isn't indie
MIA isn't indie
Jamiriqoui isn't indie
James Blunt isn't indie

So it's not all indie.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

It includes several great album. It misses McCartney, but it has most of the other best albums of 2005 in it. Even Coldplay and Athlete, both GREAT, and absent from way too many 2005 polls.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

it includes only albums from inferior genres. i see no great albums. i have called the gestapo in

600, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:32 (eighteen years ago)

i called the gaffer and he agreed it was a disgrace that argy's love dose wasnt not included. that yorkshire clown tried to tell me it wasnt an album and shouldnt be on there, i was enraged, i told him to stick it up his bollix

600, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:35 (eighteen years ago)

Funeral is a classic in my book. Not sure what happened to the book though.

braveclub, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

It has something for everyone. It has Common for rap fans, MIA for R&B fans, LCD Soundsystem and Madonna for dance fans, Bruce Springsteen and James Blunt for 50 year-old housewives, and obviously a lot of great melodic guitar pop for fans of good music.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:37 (eighteen years ago)

i am a rap fan and i hate common. i am a dance fan and i think that lcd soundsystem album sucks big time. also how on earth is MIA r&b?

lex pretend, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:38 (eighteen years ago)

if you ask me rap should be spelt with a C!!!

blueski, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

it has the carpenters for the neurofunk fans

600, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:41 (eighteen years ago)

MIA is totally indie!

braveclub, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:41 (eighteen years ago)

Geir knows all about other genres remember. he knows what is best for hip hop and dance fans. people should listen to him more. then they could be like him too

600, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

Geir what would you recommend to a fan of ragga jungle pls

braveclub, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:45 (eighteen years ago)

brain surgery!!!!!

blueski, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

geir once told me you cant really look beyond richard & linda thompson for ragga jungle

600, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

that was one hell of a coke binge. i threw a cranberry and it hit the pope

600, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

it wasnt really the pope though, it just looked like him. brocked up 9s you might say

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

Boo!!! No Sysytem of a Down's "Mezmerize?" EASILY the best record of 2005.

Jiminy Krokus, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not schooled on the finer points of dance music MIA sounds more like dancehall than indie or r&b.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

there's a few good records on here, to be sure, but overall this list is pretty boring.

Mark Clemente, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

Z was My Morning Jacket's best album (unless on another day of the week I think The Tennessee Fire is), but Arcade Fire wins for the year.

pgwp, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

I looked for Of Montreal, Spoon, Hot Chip and Sufjan, and none of them are here; therefore I will not be voting.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

Oh wait, there's Oasis. I just voted.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

you should have stayed in bed

600, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)

Aerial remains my favorite album from 2005.

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

That Common album really struck a chord with me, even though in theory I was getting out of that kind of shit at that point.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

M.I.A. – M.I.A.

Did they mean Arular?

dude you have worse taste than geir

lex pretend, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

best album on the list is probably elbow's, but the best record of 2005 was probably 'no cv' by my computer, or possibly 'outside closer' by hood.

Go-Betweens for me, narrowly over M.I.A. and Kanye

Matos W.K., Tuesday, 8 May 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

I am Matos.

I picked M.I.A. of the three, though.

JN$OT, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 06:23 (eighteen years ago)

I once thought that the Antony album would get significantly worse over time, but I just listened to it the other day, and I enjoyed it more than I did in 2005. I'm still deciding between that and Funeral.
Kanye's album is pretty great, but it wasn't the best of the year. I haven't heard all of Confessions, but "Hung Up" alone almost merits a vote for best album. I DON'T KNOW!

Tape Store, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 06:39 (eighteen years ago)

Geir you had your fun, now DO OVER.

Don't you mean GIVE OVER?

braveclub, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:33 (eighteen years ago)

not too shabby, but damned if that White Stripes album didn't suck.
the QotSA was a let down.
LCD, was, sadly, one of the better

edde, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

Of those I've heard:

Common > MIA > LCD > Gorillaz > Kanye > NIN

The Reverend, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

God 2005 was a terrible year. I just went back through the metacritic year-end lists in '05 and there was like nothing.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

2005 was a great year. don't fucking go through metacritic lists!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

Lex I don't give a fuck about what Madonna singles were good or whatever. I just wanted to remind myself of what was actually released and there was almost nothing I liked.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

2005 was a great year: Depeche Mode, Coldplay, McCartney.

I officially rest my case on 2005.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

that's a pretty dire list for 2005

i voted MMJ -- one of my favorites of the year (top 5 probably) not to mention the best on this poll AAAAAND one of the best live acts i saw in 05

stephen, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, christ, that year sucked. It's weird, and maybe this is me getting old, but I always had this prejudice against the mid-70s as a particularly dire time, but looking at P&J, not so much. But looking at this list? What a bland shitpile.

I eat cannibals, Thursday, 10 May 2007 01:04 (eighteen years ago)

"Bland" is usually a positive word.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 10 May 2007 01:05 (eighteen years ago)

some of the best music ever was bland

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 10 May 2007 01:21 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, Geir. Sometimes I wish your name was before your comments, so I didn't so often have the feeling of "Who's this lunatic?"

You don't know karate, but you do know cah-razee.
