Jive Bunny were the biggest-selling singles act of 1989.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

RIP

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

Jive Bunny were the biggest-selling singles act of 1989.

That's disturbing. I worked at a Sam Goody for a while in the late 90s. We had a copy of this sitting in the bins for years. No markdowns. No sendbacks. No purchases. Just that dumb bunny, grinning away and exhorting us to "C-c-c'mon everybody!" Sick. Just sick. It's probably still there.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

you got this wrong AGAIN Mark.

where is the 'better polls, less often' option?

blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

What do you consider a better poll though?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

nothing having to do with any of your polls is a start!

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

i mean seriously dude!

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

one poll a week is plenty

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

even a cursory reading of Foucault should have told us that

HI DERE, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

one that isn't based on some rubbish magazine's idea of the best albums from a 12 month period.

one that isn't just 'OPO by this artist who we already have an OPO thread for' in poll form. or one where it's not immediately obvious that one of 3 records will win.

or better still one that doesn't ask for a favourite recording but rather a favourite idea/theory or some other aspect of music for a change.

i like the silly ones tho, like the 'best single line from Biggie's 'Juicy'.

blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

one that isn't based on some rubbish magazine's idea of the best albums from a 12 month period.

10/10.

Pashmina, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

Polls have made ILM a far less interesting than place than it used to be. If I were the administrator, I'd disable them.

underpants of the gods, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

I don't get Dan's Foucault joke ;___;

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

a favourite idea/theory or some other aspect of music for a change. (..)

-- blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:45 (11 minutes ago)

So go fire one up!

Mark G, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

Exactly. Lead from the front and show everyone what a decent poll is then.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

one that isn't based on some rubbish magazine's idea of the best albums from a 12 month period.

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

I had a couple of polls in mind but don't want to do them yet as they'll be drowned out by all the bad poll-noise.

blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

Like I said, if every time you feel compelled to make a poll thread you just post a fake death notice, problem solved.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

Polls have made ILM a far less interesting than place than it used to be. If I were the administrator, I'd disable them.

aren't the quantity and themes of the polls the problem, not polls themselves? again, ILE has not been swamped by predictable EOYlist polls. what does this say about ILM?

blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

What if we just continued with the same rate and quality of polls, but removed the "results" function?

Michael Philip Philip Philip philip Annoyman, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

or we had results but they were just generated randomly by some script - people's actual votes completely ignored in the process.

blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

Perhaps they could return randomised heartfelt tributes to celebrities who are not actually dead.

Jamie T Smith, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

Serious man. That was my response when I first heard it as well.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

Polls, by their very structure, pander to the hierarchical listmaking instinct. Which we may well all have (the males among us anyway), but it doesn't make for very inspiring reading.

underpants of the gods, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

well that depends on the poll subject, the subsequent discussion and results.

blueski, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

Oh shit, not Jake Shillingford, anyone but Jake Shillingford

RIP big guy ;(, fuck this year already

Michael Philip Philip Philip philip Annoyman, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

Dude, they're gonna be rocking out in heaven to a live performance of "King of Kissingdom" tonight. Jake on vocals, Jimi on guitar, Keith on drums, Geir on bass, Common on guest raps. RIP.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

just make "I Love Polls" please...

Leeroy Thornhill RIP. A great talent taken from us too soon.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

Well, at least he can form a passable troupe of stage dancers with Old Fart!!!! and Modest Mickey.

It's scant consolation though.

well i've been away from this place for a long time and have only just come back. (can't for the life of me remember what my old nick was). anyways, the poll overkill is tedious. so i vote NO MORE POLLS. but only in the absence of a ONE OR TWO EVERY NOW AND AGAIN IS OK option.

AmyCamus, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

Brian William Pillman (May 22, 1962 – October 5, 1997) was an American professional wrestler and American football player.

Curt1s Stephens, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 23:49 (eighteen years ago)

I am really liking the polls because they offer a counter-balance to loudmouths with odd opinions. ILM occasionally lost me because of vociferous off-the-money-ness, but the polls remind us that there is a consensus to be argued for or against.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

spencer 100% OTM.

oh, and as someone who has created a number of these polls, this is what i have to say to all the poll-haters:

you know i'm really coming around on "[image][Removed Illegal Link]" as an instrument of high class comedy.

pretzel walrus, Thursday, 10 May 2007 05:06 (eighteen years ago)

i like the poll threads when they have discussion. i don't like the poll threads because they encourage flippancy (even moreso than typical ilm). i also think it would be better if there were less polls clogging the main page, but it's not that big of a deal.

tricky, Thursday, 10 May 2007 05:17 (eighteen years ago)

OK, Result:

No more irritating polls.

A clear mandate for non-irritating polls then.

Mark G, Thursday, 10 May 2007 08:17 (eighteen years ago)

The ILM polls would be a lot less irritating if sodding Laurel and Hardy stopped sticking their noses into the threads and reciting their one opinion over and over.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:17 (eighteen years ago)

Even tho my moaning prompted this thread, I wouldn't mind polls so much if there weren't so many of them. One a week sounds enough.

Tom D., Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:19 (eighteen years ago)

I only ever do one poll a week, which seems sensible.

or better still one that doesn't ask for a favourite recording but rather a favourite idea/theory or some other aspect of music for a change.

I think I'll try one of those next week.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:25 (eighteen years ago)

But one a week for the whole board, not for individual posters!

Tom D., Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:26 (eighteen years ago)

i don't like the poll threads because they encourage flippancy

Was ILM really less flippant before the poll threads started? I don't see it that way.

braveclub, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:33 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway this seems as good a thread as any to lament the terrible news about Morrissey. RIP the 'last of the famous international playboys'. He'll live on in our hearts and minds.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:39 (eighteen years ago)

We should do a weekly lottery and whoever wins gets to post that week's poll.

Lex and Geir to be excluded by default, obv.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

Lex hasn't started any polls iirc.
