American proto-punk alert!

Proto-punk isn't really the correct definition: I'm just searching for more VU-obsessed, Stooges-informed bands; the usual LaMonte-Young-colliding-with-Alice-Cooper-and-Syd-Barrett stuff.
I love Chrome and early Destroy All Monsters. I have those Mirrors, Pere Ubu and Debris' albums. I got Hackamore Brick and MX-80 and even that elusive Creme Soda lone lp.
Where to go next? I'd like to dig deeper, or find a good compilation filled with wild and mysterious Midwest groups.
