When Pitchfork's editor calls the band's album "a little derivative of the Pixies," Tickle's goon, played by Daily Show/Saturday Night Live luminary Rob Riggle, roughs him up and convinces him to name Tapes 'n Tapes "Best Band in the World."

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 1 June 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

mtv might actually be good for about 24 hours

it was shit

marmotwolof, Friday, 1 June 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)

MTV will not become decent again until they drop all those soaps and realities, concentrate on music, and merge all those hip-hop and R&B-shows into one weekly one hour show, leaving more space for other, non-R&B-derived, genres.

I agree up to the first comma.

But it doesn't work like that, does it?

Mark G, Friday, 1 June 2007 11:04 (eighteen years ago)

(actually second comma : miscounted)

Geir's Unholy Union

Dom Passantino, Friday, 1 June 2007 11:08 (eighteen years ago)

MTV currently plays just one genre of music. They should play all genres of music.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 1 June 2007 11:08 (eighteen years ago)

My Own Geir

Dom Passantino, Friday, 1 June 2007 11:08 (eighteen years ago)

Geir my ride.

actually, no.

Mark G, Friday, 1 June 2007 11:09 (eighteen years ago)

Is Geir Hongro:

a) making an intelligent and perceptive point that the production values of modern day R&B and mallcore emo are pretty much identical
b) confused by that one Gym Class Heroes video he saw
c) wrong

?

Dom Passantino, Friday, 1 June 2007 11:09 (eighteen years ago)

Well, if MTV are playing more EMO it is a step in the right direction. In the early 00s they hardly played anything but R&B and hip-hop at all.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 1 June 2007 11:10 (eighteen years ago)

On this week's made, a self-conscious Norwegian melody fan is made into a cheerleader.

Dom Passantino, Friday, 1 June 2007 11:12 (eighteen years ago)

geir, adjust the color until the people look white

abanana, Friday, 1 June 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

I don't give a damn about the skin colour, but I want MELODIES and stable, predictable 4/4 beats that don't take the attention away from the melodies!!

Geir Hongro, Friday, 1 June 2007 12:31 (eighteen years ago)

I'm fine with Shakira morphing into Beyonce, but I don't even think they'd do that these days.

Gukbe, Friday, 1 June 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

It all went downhill for Geir the day they let Michael Jackson on.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 1 June 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

let's see how far we can push Geir, see if he becomes a wrathful ILXor-eating giant by the end of this thread.

Geir, there are plenty of melodies in "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')," I don't see what you're talking about.

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 1 June 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)

when was mtv ever cool? (whatever else it was or wasn't)

m coleman, Friday, 1 June 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)

A lot of today's emo is less melody-driven than a lot of today's R&B.

Hurting 2, Friday, 1 June 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

ANYWAY,

the bit with Bob Odenkirk discussing the real names of rappers was pretty funny.

dan selzer, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

It's just the same opinion, over and over and over, and yet Geir can still derail any thread with it.

libcrypt, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

its not opinion its the TRUTH

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

Nevertheless, I wish I had a formula as effective as Geir's.

repetition repetition repetition

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

A repetitive melody is not a good melody. There have certainly been good melodies in a lot of R&B (Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye, Chi-Lites, 60s Motown, 70s Philly), but there is very little in today's minimalist, repetitive over-rhythmic crap.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

Oh Geir, I meant YOU ARE REPETITIVE

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 1 June 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

I enjoy your posts and all, but they need a better beat and maybe some more interesting changes

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 1 June 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

best thread ever and such
