no thread?
y'all know i'm a sucker for this kind of stuff--
but i wish there were more vocals throughout the album. the instrumental tracks are ok, but the vocal/pop tracks are so so amazing.

There was some talk on the minimal thread cutty, though popnoname doesn't really fit on that thread. It reminds me of Underworld a lot. I like the vocals but they can be so tuneless sometimes! The first few minutes of the first track ("No Doubt" i think?) are a good example of this.

oh i didnt even think of underworld but you are otm

Specifically "No Doubt" sounds like a compressed version of "Cups". Not as good I don't think (the shift from deep house to rave on the former is dramatic whereas the shift from flowing ambient tech-house to rave on the latter is more melodramatic) but then few things are as good as "Cups"! It's a worthy act of homage.
The Popnoname stuff on Firm sounded so different, I wonder if this is quite consciously his "Italic" album.

All told, I'm not sure anything on the album is as good as "On the Run." I also wouldn't call "No Doubt"'s vocals tuneless - they're so purposefully flat throughout that they build on that melodramatic ambient->rave shift.

Yes, No Doubt really does sound like Cups, doesn't it? That thought popped into my head the first time I heard that bit when it all lifts off.
The album is pretty much the exact midpoint between Underworld and the Junior Boys. Light is my favourite for that precise reason.
As far as the album as a whole goes, the first half is glorious but I've yet to be in the mood for the second half to really grab my attention.

(I mean the Junior Boys of So This Is Goodbye really, rather than the first album)

i know right! i keep thinking, if only the vocals were a little less flat, a little more in tune, i could completelt adore this album - as it is the vocals aren't bad enough for me to dislike it, it's probably still one of the better albums i've heard this year, but i do wish it was jeremy greenspan singing.

Any thoughts on 'Surrounded by Weather'? I think 'No movement' and '2012' are amazing, wish the whole album was on par with this ones.

i'll have to check it out; i really dug the sound of "the white album" but the tracks just seem to go nowhere

I finally managed to get a copy of this whilst . ID Card and The Movement are so sweet, lush and melancholy.

The new one, 50ยบ, is a class apart. It's more experimental than Surrounded by Weather but also more fully formed. Has anyone heard this yet?
