"Fire" -- one of rock's finest forgotten songs that actually got radio play. Way more than a "British" Captain Beefhart. A truly original wierdo. Classic.

The Lord of Hellfire is indeed a classic.

classic. lots more good stuffs other than fire.

chaki, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, classic. Agree w/ Chaki, the whole album is great. I'm surprised I've never heard of any attempts to cover "Fire"--you'd think Marilyn Manson or Zodiac Mindwarp or W.A.S.P. or somebody like that would have had a go at it.

Didn't follow his career after that, though. I'm curious about Kingdom Come.

Yeah, the debut album is CLASSIC, yo. 'Fiyah' rules of course, and I'll always have a soft spot for 'Spontaneous Apple Creation'.

Is this cd in print? I don't think it was when I got it 4-5 years ago (my first Ebay transaction).

No, I don't think it is print any longer. I don't have it on CD though. I was in a hole in the wall record shop and I found it on vinyl. The owner, an ex-trucker and psych afficianado, told me that it was great and I don't regret it one bit. Only 4 bucks. I'm glad that dusty record shops exist. Don't know where I'd be, or what I'd discover without them.

If anyone knows where (we order - or you buy it and send it to me) I can find a copy ... I've been looking for it (halfheartedly, I must admit) for about 15 years.

I've never heard anything else, but Fire is great. I like how the dramatic spoken intro totally clashes with the swinging sixties diskotek dreck of the music. You hear this Alistair Cooke meets Alistair Crowley voice solemnly intoning "I am the god of Hell Fire and I bring you..." and then, instead of the expected generic heavy metal riff you get a James Last-soundalike band banging out a turtleneck peacesign-swizzlestick groove. Sounds like the God of Hell Fire is hanging out in the grotto with Hef and Charo. As he was, I suppose.

Actually, "Fire" was covered rather unconvincingly by The Who on Townshend's _Iron Man_ album. Not surprised though, since Townshend produced the original CWOAB album.
