"Throw Some D's" is the masterful piece of production architecture.
"Make It Rain (Remix)" is the true rhyme event.
"This Is Why I'm Hot" is the flawless piece of pop.

So who gets to be called 2007's greatest hip-hop single?

I've been staunchly "Throw Some D's" all year, but am currently leaning towards "Make It Rain" on the strength of R. Kelly alone.

Never trust an indie guy when they start talking about perfect pop - Todd Rundgren, New Pornographers, MiMS, whatever.

I suppose "flawless" is exaggerating ("It Takes Two" is probably the only flawless pop hip-hop song) but it's still the best hip-pop we've got this year for my money.

"Throw Some D's" is definitely '06, though ("Make It Rain" too, but not the remix). I like "Throw" the most but I'm pretty sick of all of them right now.

"This Is Why I'm Hot" is flawless for the first 90 seconds but then it goes on for 2 more forgettable verses.

although all of these songs are symptomatic of the fact that in '07, all the big singles are coming from no-names and b-listers while 50 and T.I. and Kanye are shooting blanks.

I'd vote "Baby Got Back" myself.

"Throw Some D's" is definitely '06, though

It came out in '06, for sure (it was on the bottom of my Top 40 Hip-Hop Singles of 06 list), but didn't make itself ubiquitous until '07 (it'll probably be in my top 10 of 07 easy).

"Make It Rain (Remix)" is pretty amazing. But I don't understand why it is credited to DJ Khaled feat. everyone. What exactly does DJ Khaled do? He didn't write or produce "We Takin' Over" either.

errr. ignore my post. it seems only wikipedia is crediting Make It Rain Remix to DJ khaled.

"Throw Some D's" is definitely my favorite rap single of the year. I first heard it mid-Decemberish, too late to make my Stylus list. It didn't make the pop charts until around that same time, and it peaked in March, so it's definitely 2007 in my mind. "This Is Why I'm Hot" is up there. There are a few other stray 2007 rap singles I'd take over it, though. I haven't heard the remix of "Make It Rain". The original didn't do too much for me.

"This Is Why I'm Hot" is flawless for the first 90 seconds but then it goes on for 2 more forgettable verses.

No way, he doesn't even say "guap" until the third verse".

This thread should have also included "Walk It Out"
