Best Song on Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours"

I have to say, "Don't Stop" is another favorite (though I've always felt it should have moved a bit faster than it does).

I love every song on this album and would normally pick GYOW as my favorite, but the older I get and the more I realize what an asset Christine was "Songbird" cuts deepest.

OTM. I worked above a restaurant the year this came out, and come closing time the staff would crank this on the jukebox so loud that the drum and bass came up through the floorboards. Mick and John (and the production) on this are flawless.

That said, I think it's still GYOW for me. Apples and oranges, though.

Including "Silver Springs" is unfair a) because it's only been a proper inclusion for 3 or 4 years and b) it makes deciding my favorite even harder.

Go Your Own Way. One of my fave singles ever.

Bubba kind of ruined Don't Stop for me.

I'm not a big Stevie Nicks fan, but "Gold Dust Woman" just has a mood to it. It's not as spectacular as "Go Your Own Way," but it gets under one's skin like no other song on the record.

actually, I'm not sure this is intentional trolling -- both my parents think this, and they're not uniformly allergic to "good" music. I think there is a certain sect of people (esp those who had to live with FM being mega stars) who probably do think the record and the band are pretty much worthless and hollow.

I went for Gold Dust Woman, but this was stupid hard.

when i told my dad that Fleetwood Mac was becoming my favorite band, he looked straight at me and said, maybe slightly less than half jokingly, "I don't even know who you are anymore".
I voted Songbird. Primarily because a couple of my best friends think Rumours is one of the best albums ever EXCEPT for Songbird, which "sucks". I've been trying to convince them for a couple years now that it's the heart of the album to no avail. whatever.

I voted "Silver Springs" with "Second Hand News" a tad behind.

No "Oh Daddy"s as of yet...

Kind of lame even for a troll, as associating FM w/soulless, faceless, highly produced AM radio drivel = I never heard anything they did before 1975, at the very least.

Anyway, Don't Stop, which even the Clinstones couldn't stop.

"Dreams," but any given evening it could've been any of the other tracks.

I think I'll go with 'Dreams' but I'm sad that on one is cheering for 'The Chain', that breakdown before the coda is probably the best moment on the whole album.

The shorter Nicks song "I Don't Want to Know" was its replacement. The standard version of Rumours now includes "Silver Springs"

and nicks was pissed at the band for both removing "silver springs' and adding "i don't want to know."

Lindsay's "Bow bow bow bow bow" vocal on "Secondhand News" is the best thing ever.

I might ultimately plump for "You Make Loving Fun" but it's so hard with this album.

"GYOW" but mostly cos that scene with it in Casino when there's that sweeping shot of the desert and they're driving made me realise how great FM were. Too hard to pick properly, nearly anything on this is a sentimental fav and musically it's so good

That said if I was honest I'd admit that it wasn't anywhere near my favourite song on the album.

I've listened to quite a few episodes of the Song Exploder podcast, and this episode where Lindsay Buckingham breaks down "Go Your Own Way" is easily the most interesting one I've heard:

He plays the demo version, isolates each singer on backing vocals, talks about how he couldn't get over Stevie, and overall sounds like much less of an egomaniac than I had assumed he was.

i had a hazy memory of this album being polled and "you make loving fun" winning. it's my pick, anyway. but i kinda dug the world in my head where that had quietly become the consensus favorite among us ILM types.

You're not wrong, "You Make Loving Fun" finished second in the other poll: How can it be that we have never polled RUMOURS by Fleetwood Mac?!

Toss up between several songs for me (obviously), but really surprised to see GYOW winning it. One of the least interesting songs on the album IMO

"Dreams" and "You Make Loving fun" are the only songs I really like on this album.
(I also like "Silver Springs" but it's not on the original album)

That I enjoy this whole record goes without saying, yet 'You Make Loving Fun' is still my favourite track on this album by miles.

Before my time here. My #1 would be the B-side, "Landslide." So that doesn't count. Probably "Silver Springs," but I still like "Go Your Own Way" and "Dreams" a lot. Not "Don't Stop." In high school, we ran onto the court to "Don't Stop," picked by the coach. (He later served as Clinton's campaign manager, I believe.) I kept asking if we could switch to Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle." I remember running out to that at least once, so I had some measure of success.

So many covers of tunes from Rumors. I like Hole's take on Gold Dust Woman.

I believe “silver spring” was a bside that was inserted into Rumours when the CD came out?

That's it then, I'm getting the two mixed up. It was "Silver Springs" I discovered years later.

Silver Springs was left off the album because the overall length (at that time) would have meant sacrificing the bass response by narrowing the grooves.

Of course on CD that doesn't matter so it was restored.
