And one for Brad Delp...

It's gotta be "Foreplay/Long Time" (decided to leave them linked together for voting), but even if that was not an option, I'd still be tempted to cast for several of the songs on Side Two over "More Than a Feeling" (especially "Something About You").

not a duffer in the lot...

I'd pick "Something About You", for it's incredible hook...(on the verse, no less)...

Damn, I hate it when a performer's best-known, best-selling song also happens to be my favourite. Such a blow to the ego. "I'm Mr. Big Music Expert, the man who knows more about music than anyone else in this here office, and there's more than 40 of us!" and yet I'm forced to share a favourite with the average civilian who owns five records and no record player, and who likes that one song but can't name any other by the artist. I reserve the right to act insufferably smug and obnoxious and say "Yeah, that's an OK song, but not nearly as good as [obscure B-side]", but I can't deny what I feel in my gut.

Which is all an incredibly long-winded way of saying that my second-favourite song is "Hitch A Ride". There's something so quintessentially '70s about hitchhiking songs. But really, I love that entire album, even after 30 years of FM radio playing the damn thing to death. (Except the last three tracks - I don't think I've ever heard 'em on radio, mysteriously enough.)

It just means the song in question is great so this doesn't bug me at all. Perhaps the next line of dialogue should be "Yeah, but the rest of the album is pretty ace too. Check it out." 'Cept for me, that one song is enough. Even though I think "More Than a Feeling" is one of the loveliest singles of the 1970s, the rest of Boston's oeuvre just doesn't move me. Always fascinating to ponder, though, like listening to someone explain how The Power Soak works.

The last song gets some airplay.

Bill Magill, Friday, 8 June 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

got a ton of airplay when the record was first released...

I've heard every song from this album on the radio. In fact, it was a radio spin of "Hitch A Ride" last summer that rejuvinated my interest in this record. (part of the reason why I voted for that song)

That said, I think this is one of the most overrated records ever made, albiet a fine one.

I've never heard this album except on the radio. Have always wondered if it would be just mind-blowingly mind blowing on CD. Or if it would suck...

Smokin is a jam.

Get it, and wonder no more. Wear headphones. You will not be disappointed.

Weird thing about that story is the implication that the courts will ultimately decide what caused Brad Delp to take his own life.
