where's the i'd rather be flayed alive than have to read either option?

JN$OT, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

Golden age? In the US, probably 1968-1984 (more or less).

JN$OT, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

What happened after 1984?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:54 (eighteen years ago)

1985

latebloomer, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

blueski, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't read the uk music press until 1990/91 so that was the golden time for me at least.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:36 (eighteen years ago)

Who is that guy?

The Twisted Pollstarter, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Monday, 18 June 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

In the US, there hasn't been such a thing as a music press since the 80s. Rolling Stones cannot be considered music press anymore, as they are now some pointless celebrity mag.

What happened after 1984?

In 1985, "We Built This City" and "Broken Wings". ;)

Geir Hongro, Monday, 18 June 2007 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

Or how many UK and US journos on ILM vote for their own country

The Twisted Pollstarter, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)

I was going to either abstain or vote 'anything but the UK!' but then I remembered that we have the Wire. Is there anything comparable in the US?

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

More brits voted then!

The Twisted Pollstarter, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think so. It's not very British to vote for yourself. That's more of an American thing to do.

admrl, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

Americans must hate their music press then! The Big Takeover and Skyscraper are good mags. Is there an equivalent of The Wire?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 23:24 (eighteen years ago)

re: Is there an equivalent of The Wire?

yes, 4 issues a year:

Have you read it?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 23:36 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Hey, this is the "turd" and I have some questions.

1. Who actually reads and cares about what music critics write?

2. Why would anyone want to make choices in buying and downloading music based upon the opinions of former record store clerks or wannabe musicians?

3. Wouldn't you rather be informed about new music from friends with similar taste or buy friends who are actual musician?

Regards,
Bill O'Turdly
