Kilbey for me without a doubt.

It's Peter Koppes for me. He's a dark horse for sure, but I can't get enough of the way he plays guitar.

Hmm...I had visions of this poll including each and every solo album or something insane like that.

I think it's a difficult question...Marty started out really well but I got kinda bored and quit paying attention after awhile...Kilbey, while certainly having his own share of uneven quality, has nevertheless been involved in some truly outstanding material with other collaborators. But even on solo material alone, he's had enough high points as good as The Church themselves that I guess I'll pick him.

With Peter Koppes I think I tried one or two of his earlier albums and just couldn't connect with any of it. I think this is a real shame because some of the few songs he wrote and sang with the Church are just amazing and seem to take me somewhere Marty & Steve just couldn't go. Would you care to recommend a Koppes album, Johnny?

Kilbey, because I loved Unearthed back in the day.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

@Bimble

Koppes recorded an ep and lp under the name The Well with ex-Church drummer Richard Ploog and some other people, but for all intents and purposes they still count as solo releases. I'd highly recommend grabbing both of those. Manchild & Myth, his first solo album, is also great if you spend some time with it. The raggedy-ass drum machines he using are a distraction, but the songs are there.

Damnit I know the results will be so boring, Steve, Marty, Peter. Waaaah. Gotta wonder how many folks even voted in this thing. I'll be surprised if it's over 10 unless there are a buttload of lurkers.

I can't remember if it was Manchild & Myth I had or whatever came after that, but thanks for the recommendations, Johnny.

Yeah, didn't really expect a high turnout on this one.

even fewer than 10!

This reminds me...Where's a good place to start with the Church? I've only heard a few tracks, but I've loved them all (especially "Under the Milky Way").

Heyday and Starfish are great for "mainstreamish" Church stuff, Priest=Aura is a little more demanding. Any of those should give you a good enough of an idea if you want to dig further, though.

8 is actually my favourite number, if that makes any difference. We got 8 votes, here.

Thanks JF...I'll check those out.

I thought about Peter Koppes a lot the last few days. Definitely going to give his solo work another go, now.

one year passes...

I guess it's the time of year for me to binge on Church solo stuff again. Listening to Koppes right now, but Willson-Piper's in queue.
