bob snoom, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ice cream trucks of the future will all be outfitted with heavy-duty magnets and swearing robot drivers

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I suppose I should play "Today" by the Pumpkins, or is that too obvious?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dr dre - the next episode (btw, this works really well on a mobile phone too)

minna, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Ice Cream Man" by Van Halen, "Ice Cream Man" by Tom Waits, "Walking into Sunshine" by Central Line, and Position Normal.

Andy K, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Ice Cream Man" by Jonathan Richman. "Ice Cream Truck" by the Jazz Butcher. "Ice Cream Ice Cream Ice Cream - I Scream Mary Eiffel Tower High" - Husker Du. ..and somehow, Pere Ubu's "Bus Called Happiness"

Dave225, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Lick My Decals Off, Baby"

Curt, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fuzzy Haskins' "Gettin' It Off". And it wouldn't be a truck; it'd be a '68 Thunderbird. With the Landau roof. Sno-Cones for everyone!

Nate Patrin, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Boards of Canada - except that hearing an actual ice-cream van echo by outside has about five times the emotional kick of BOC in exactly the same way!

Earth Leakage Trip's "The Ice Cream Van From Hell"!

Tom, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, there's this song by the Outhere Brothers...

Dan Perry, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bjork, we have your next album sorted.

Billy Dods, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Mommy it's that song again!"

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Funkytown!

Jeff W, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A really new Cat Stevens album, with all Islamic chants... in today's climate, what could be better for business?

Andy, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Eat It" by Weird Al Yankovic.

Lord Custos, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"popcorn" by hot butter is what they would play as the winner of the Ice Cream Truck Le Mans crossed the finish line

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You have to remember that an ice cream truck can only play a melody - and that with a tinkly, music-box sound (see this link) - so I'm afraid a lot of these selections would not translate very well. You need something with a recognizable theme that doesn't rely on harmonization too much (as with ring-tones).

o. nate, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, if we have to be serious about it - Devo's "EZ Listening" Disc.

Dave225, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anything by Iced Earth (whose music I've never actually heard, but whose Iron Maiden-inspired album covers I enjoy.)

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Low

Keiko, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aah, I've already posted my list on the ILE thread.

Martin Skidmore, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

surely the amusing part is to imagine these tunes played in a tinkly music box manner?

michael, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think that the melody of Fred Frith's "Spring Any Day Now" would sound really nice tinkling from a passing ice cream truck.

o. nate, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ice cream vans in music videos?

"Concrete Schoolyard" Jurassic 5 "Real World" Matchbox 20

Any others?

Judd Nelson, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Judd: Maybe something from theTrees Lounge soundtrack? Didn't Steve Buscemi drive one?

Back to the question, Mum's "Slow Bicycle" (last track on the Yesterday Was Dramatic... album) sounds like it was transcribed from an ice cream truck.

Curt, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC

, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Two Tub Man" by the Dictators'd be better actually

, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Master P and Dru Down on the weekends.

Honda, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Satan's Icecream Truck" by Strapping Young Lad. I can't think of any song more appropriate than that.

Andrew, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Peter Laughner's Life Stinks. The sooner they know that life is crap, the better.
