I've been on a big Pepe Braddock kick lately and would really like to hear more stuff in his vein. Who would you recommend?
― littlewhiteearbuds, Monday, 18 June 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)
Oh my, it appears I've gone and given him extra d's -- twice. My apologies.

― strongohulkington, Monday, 18 June 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)
hey my house motherfuckers
― strongohulkington, Monday, 18 June 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)
Quite possibly my additional "d" screwed up my search. Let me have a looksee.
― littlewhiteearbuds, Monday, 18 June 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)
Ah, there we are. Thanks, Strongo!
Gotta agree with the Theo take on this Freddie Hubbard song besting the Pepe Bradock. But I do thoroughly enjoy Deep Burnt as well. And find the Freddie Hubbard album that they both sample. It's gorgeousness throughout and at least in these parts really easy to find used. That'd be this one: http://www.discogs.com/release/433617

But I want a picture to go with that: http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drg400/g435/g43508ot42m.jpg

Whoa, does anyone have that Common Factor album? It looks lovely.
― littlewhiteearbuds, Monday, 18 June 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)
yeah I do. I don't really listen to house anymore, but I still pull it out occasionally and can find stuff to like about it.
― Granny Dainger, Monday, 18 June 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)
I made a personal compilation based around this track. I'll dig it out.
― Spencer Chow, Monday, 18 June 2007 23:16 (eighteen years ago)
i'm gonna use this oppurtunity to again rep for panash "cheval", basically "deep burnt" pt 2 and fucking amazing sweaty goodness
― creme1, Monday, 18 June 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)
theo parrish "solitary flight"
― creme1, Monday, 18 June 2007 23:26 (eighteen years ago)
Wow, just heard 'deep burnt'
maybe "Life Force" by Oracy would do it
― Alex xy, Monday, 18 June 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)
Yes, "Life Source" by Oracy is great, but the "Mind Dance" side of that record might be more in the realm of "Deep Burnt." Or not. Both are great.

Whoa thanks for reminding me about that Common Factor album, thread. I hadn't played that in years and forgot how good it was~!
― sous les paves, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 03:59 (eighteen years ago)
xpost thanks for correction it's unmarked on my copy. The 12" is great and I do get the sweaty, heat-hazey, exhausted vibe from both tracks.
― Alex xy, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 09:21 (eighteen years ago)
dude!! i swear i started a pepe bradock thread on ilm!
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)
i used to hate on 'Deep Burnt' a bit. the strings hook is awesome but man it goes on with not a lot else. i know it's a huge track tho. thinking of it tends to lead me to 'Sorrow And A Cup Of Joe' by The Other People Place.

"Wonderbra" is MASSIVE and I've always wanted to hear it on a huge system - very slithery and deep and cold, not at all like the bulk of his stuff
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)
Synthese: how could I have not heard this utterly amazing album before. It possibly even knocks the Motorbass album off its throne. Fucking "Atom Funk"!!!!
― Tim F, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 10:59 (eighteen years ago)
Man I have looked high and low for that album. All I have is an EP with a few cuts on it.
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 13:54 (eighteen years ago)
(like the aforementioned "Wonderbra"!)
"Synthese: how could I have not heard this utterly amazing album before. It possibly even knocks the Motorbass album off its throne. Fucking "Atom Funk"!!!!
-- Tim F"
in case you didnt know, Synthese is basically just a compilation of tracks from early pepe 12"s plus a couple of tracks that i assume are original to that album. "atomfunk" was originally by Trankilou and is on this 12":

and most of the other tracks are from these:

the b side of this kevin reynolds record really reminds me of pepe:

any opinions on "intriguing feathered creature" his new track on atavisme? those bird noises are pretty tripped out and dude knows how to rock a deep chord sequence like nobody else. the dub especially is incredible.
― r1o natsume, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)
anyone else feeling this?
― r1o natsume, Thursday, 21 February 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)
It sounded intriguing enough for me to order it.. sounded great actually but I will hold my enthusiasm until the record actually arrives.
Many thanks to this thread for pointing out that Freddie Hubbard record - I am a big fan of Freddie Hubbard but haven't heard that one before, will have to track it down.
― Bee En Juan, Thursday, 21 February 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)
I think if you liked "rhapsody of pain" you'll like feathered creature, no? They both seem to be in the same vein.
