Don Cherry, Billy Higgins, Charlie Haden, Paul Bley.
Why have I never heard of this til now?

these recordings were usually issued under Paul Bley's name (as I think he was the leader)

Bley is barely audible on this Charlie Parker song, though. Even during his own solo.

I don't think I've ever listened to with-piano Ornette.

Well, it's taken me to the third song, and the first Coleman original ("The Blessing" in this case) but this is finally in full swing.

Indeed - I'm still looking forward to seeing him at the South Bank next month and I hope he recovers.
The above album I got on vinyl years ago under the title The Fabulous Paul Bley Quintet. Not bad but more of a signpost to what was going to happen rather than a thing in itself.
Ornette + piano - offhand I can only think of Something Else! which was a bit of a compromise (Walter Norris is OK but gets in the way of the flow) and the duo album he did with Joachim Kuhn a couple of years ago which is fair but not outstanding. Otherwise you have the odd things like the blues numbers on Science Fiction/Broken Shadows with Cedar Walton serenely comping and the various electric keyboards on Tone Dialing but that's not quite the same thing. Jim Hall was on Jazz Abstractions but offhand I can't remember whether there was a pianist as well.

FWIW the Hillcrest Club is a posh country club in LA, w/outrageously beautiful golf course tucked in between freeways. 99.9% jewish members and not coincidentally a history of hosting jazz gigs in 1940s/50s.

Don't forget the two albums he made with the quartet that had Geri Allen (Sound Museum: Hidden Man/Sound Museum: Three Women) and the Geri Alen record where he played on a couple of tracks. Those are both about ten years old, I guess.

Also, I heard about that fainting spell at the outdoor concert. I'm glad it doesn't seem to be serious, just that the guy needs to stay hydrated and maybe take it a little easy on the heat and sun. Maybe take a pass on daytime summer gigs outside.

We won't be seeing him at Glastonbury, then.
