Even if I thought they were worth seeing, at those prices... Spare me your "underground" hipness...

I don't really love Sonic Youth, but I gotta tell ya, it was one of the better shows I've seen in the last 10 years. It might have been the juxtaposition of band & surroundings (they were playing big, bloated outdoor festival feat. the likes of The Dave Matthews Band, The Offspring, String Cheese Incident, Blues Traveler etc.), but their set was completely unhinged and glorious.

but no, I wouldn't pay more than 25$
― will, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)
in fact, I don't think there's a whole hell of a lot that I'd pay more than 25$ to see.
Well, considering that the entire Russian indie blogosphere is exploding with flickr galleries like "Sonic Youth Arriving at Vnukovo Airport," no surprise there.
Then again, Russian indie bloggers are not the ones who will pay for those $1,000 tickets. I doubt anyone will, in fact. It makes for good copy, and then all the VIP tix will be quietly filled with the promoters' friends-of-friends, gratis.

Russia, you could say that you've been "Rather Ripped"!
― King Boy Pato, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)
ahh. missed the Russian part.
still.

Maybe Thurston Moore is auditioning for the role of Vladmir Putin since the only people who could afford $1000 for the Yoof in Moscow would be dodgy Russian businessmen.
― King Boy Pato, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)
I bet Thurston already has an RFID chip.

― Hurting 2, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)
shit. i think they've made a big enough name for themselves now, after 25 years or so, that it's just fine if tickets for their shows cost 60$ now.
― andi, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
not that i'd pay more than 40, though.
― andi, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)
Sonic Youth is maybe the only band that I would pay more than $40 to see.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)
I'm thinking about going to that White Stripes/Grinderman/Porter Wagoner show at MSG, and if I do it will be my first $40+ ticket
― Hurting 2, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)
Someone on craigslist is offering $100 for a ticket to see them at P1tchfork Fest.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)
That doesn't surprise me.
