If you like Platinum Pied Pipers and Sa-Ra, you'll most likely like GA.
Granted, yeah, album is a bit opaque, but I love it.
I grabbed some Dudley Perkins I want to check out in a bit.
Not new, but new to me.

Not going to convert the haters, but the new album "Seeds" is pretty cool! First time that GAM has handed over production duties (to Madlib), overall vibe seems to be a bit more idk "focused" than on recent albums.

Seeds and Olesi: Fragments of an Earth would be my favourite GAM albums

Olesi and Seeds are the ones I know/like the best. Umsindo is good too iirc?

I feel like I should like her, and I have tried several times, but her stuff just does nothing for me.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 14 December 2020 00:04 (five years ago)
I'm relistening to Olesi for the first time in ages. It starts very abstract and opaque but quickly reaches a sweet spot between inviting you in and pushing you away, I like the dynamic, there is tension. And it does not matter so much that it's all fragmented because it's so well executed, afro-futuristic capsule after capsule, a world of its own. I can't help seeing her as a more introverted and darker Erykah Badu, but forward-thinking in her own way. Her music has this density and rugged blues quality.

Leroy is a stunning track. It's been a while since I immersed mysef in Olesi, but I remember the shadow of Katrina hanging heavy over it.
The new Moor Mother album is strongly in a Georgia Ann vein, and is excellent.

On to Umsindo and its P-Funk influence. GAM does not stop sounding fresh over 24 tracks, they're pretty well divided between songs and self-standing outros even if still all part of the same jam. Her singing intervals are so intriguing, it's like an inverted mirror of conventional singing. Conclusion, I still really like that album.

Georgia's new EP collaboration with Keith Rice as LilBlackKids, 'Planet of the Blues: Part Two' is just great, they really vibe off each other, and the short length makes it a lot easier to ensure that it never feels like it's revisiting familiar ground.
(the first LilBlackKids EP was good too, but this is longer and much more substantial)
