for mourning of a friend?

I've been listening to Low - Things we lost in the fire album

and a bunch of cat power and yo la tengo especially, "I feel like going home" which has an Irish twang to it, which is appropriate since my friend had a wake.

I also think of sufjan stevens and some beck songs

Otis Redding. A lot of the sadder Stax/volt stuff. Leonard Cohen. Neil Young, On the Beach which is actually a wake record. Joy Division or Nick Drake? A lot of old country songs, Hank Williams type stuff deals with loss in a mature way. Leadbelly.

Maybe something upbeat to get your mind off of it? Like maybe something sad and happy at the same time with an upbeat tune?

Just don't listen to Sufjan or I'll get depressed.

Sigur Ros. Sad yet magical & hopeful (for a better place etc.)
