Hawkwind studio albums poll (doesn't include any options post '82)

i made it studio albums only as i reckon space ritual would probably win and i wanted to see which other hawkwind albums have ilx love. yes, i know pxr5 is semi-live but i've included it anyway. no options post '82 as frankly, yr nuts if you think their best album came after then. the cut off point could probably have been even earlier.

xenon codex wasn't a good album? i never heard it but i saw them on that tour.

hall of the mountain grill has always been my favorite. do re mi is close, but "brainstorm is a little hard to get over as an intro, especially compared to "psychedelic warlords," and part of hawkwind's appeal to me is immediate gratification of my jones to break earth orbit

kamerad, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 01:26 (eighteen years ago)

Hall then Warrior then Do Re Mi then In Search of.

Quark is my choice on account of Calvert's good humour. but i like a few nearly as much (Levitation, Hawklords, and Do Le mi to be precise).

outdoor_miner, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 02:08 (eighteen years ago)

an astounding lack of love!

stirmonster, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

Warrior, not least because it doesn't sound like it was recorded in Jandek's bedroom like most of the others do.

I only own ISO, Doremi and Hall (and Space Ritual of course). Of those, I vote for Hall because of "Psychedelic Warlords."

surely not one of their best. the production was pretty bad and typical of the time. i remember one song made me think they were going to break into "SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE" at any second.

anyway, voting for iSoS. first one i really listened to, has some killer tunes, etc. it could easily have been mountain grill, really, but it sort of meanders and i can't quite focus on it.

had to vote for Doremi, that's the beast. I always thought that was CW considered the best? 2nd would be Quark and it was real hard not to vote for it...

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 28 June 2007 04:52 (eighteen years ago)

do re mi is a slab of nearly indigestible riff brutality.

Obviously this is a very god thing indeed, so it gets my vote.

have been deliberating this since poll was posted. still haven't decided!

Went for In Search of by default, without thinking. The triple disc comp I've got is probly better. They benefit from editing. Quark, Strangeness might've won for me except for the title track which is kind of annoying and a bit pish.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

hello there, predictable poll results.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Monday, 2 July 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

i went for doremi in the end. 'brainstorm' is a pretty good deal-breaker.

haitch, Monday, 2 July 2007 09:39 (eighteen years ago)

Chiz! That wasn't nearly a long enough go for a poll. I don't think I even saw it, let alone voted. :-(

Couple weeks ago I listened to "You'd Better Believe It" on repeat play for almost a hour. I felt much better afterward and do not disagree with the results of this poll.

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 2 July 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

"you'd better believe it" could really go on forever and a day and i'd never get sick of it. wonder if it's from the same performances as the space ritual stuff and if not what the rest of the concert it comes from's like

kamerad, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 05:25 (sixteen years ago)

From what I've read there aren't any existing full-length concert films from the early 70s era Hawkwind. That's a damn shame considering how awesome that "Silver Machine" video looks...

twelve years pass...

Hey! 'Church of Hawkwind' is pretty good!

lemmy incaution (emsworth), Friday, 15 October 2021 01:53 (four years ago)

it's generally much derided but i agree, it is good. synths set to stun.

From the album cover alone I can date it to 1981 or 1982
