Captain Sensible - C/D

The first two Captain Sensible albums (_Women And Captains First_ & _The Power Of Love_) are finally, finally getting a proper CD reissue, albeit only in Japan! And despite the meager bonus tracks, I'll be getting them as they are UTTER CLASSICS of the post-punk era, sort of new wave as seen by one of the original punks. Yes, the production is dated at times but it all works. The rest of his catalog isn't far behind - _Revolution Now_ is chock-a-block full of fun tunes, _Universe Of Geoffrey Brown_ isn't as strong but has it's moments, the live album is killer and the last one from over ten years ago, _Mad Cows And Englishmen_ is solid as well. A pity his stuff is so difficult to obtain.

Keeping it brief: a great, great man. Classic.

I love him, but the vast majority of the tracks are on that "A Collection" CD from the UK, in the same versions. How are the remaining few? - "Strawberry Dross" and whatnot.

I completely forgot about _The Collection_! I passed on it because I have LP rips but wanted everything if I was going to replace them. It misses five tracks between the first two albums: "Nobody's Sweetheart", "Who Is Melody Lee, Sid?", "Gimme A Uniform", "Secrets" and "I Love You". Of these, "Gimme A Uniform" is the best and "I Love You" is good too. "Strawberry Dross" is what it sounds like, a tossed-off bit of fluff made of up what sounds like parts of various demos.

I think "The Universe Of Geoffrey Brown" is the best LP of the Captain. But Captain Sensible is CLASSIC, of course!

I say 'Wat'

Damn Ned. that version's awesome.

I wish Captain Sensible had a few more singles as great as "Wot" (or maybe he did and I'm just clueless).

I was sure they were playing "Wot" at the local taco joint tonight. But it was "Rip it Up". Chic, we luv u.

He's got gobs of great singles-only tracks. In this great digital future, I wonder if once-briefly-popular artists like the Captain will get their entire back catalogs available on emusic or some other site.

Course if they ever put together a rad 2CD set of them all I'd jump all over it.

The above mentioned albums are great, so of their time but still loads of fun. I wonder why the Captain hasn't released a solo album in about 15 years? We've had a couple of Damned albums since then but still...

Yeah I loved early Damned Blah Blah! but
'Glad it's all over'
will always be such a beautiful, joyous life affirming song. Peace, people.

I need to delve into his solo stuff some more
