Reccomend me something moody

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could reccomend me something that sounds like this: something slow and moody, with noir horns and a violin. A deep voiced vocalist (male or female). Maybe something like New Model Army's dark and slow songs(Headlights,White Light,Someone like Jesus)? Or The Cure's great ones, obviously I'm not asking for something that sounds like the Cure or NMA, just same vein. Something almost darker if thats possible. The horns and violin are not a neccesity, but would be great. Thanks very much for any help.

Try some Elend. Orchestral layers, Brendan Perry-styled vocals and (lately) some industrial noise. Intense and very well done.

And Also the Trees - you can't go wrong with any of their albums - the further back you go, the more they sound like their tourmates, The Cure - but The Klaxon best meets your criteria.

How about something good-moody? I tried a little experiment once and noticed moody music made me moody. For realz.

Mr. Hal Jam beat me to repping And Also The Trees!

The The can get pretty moody. Otherwise, if you're looking for instrumental moody, Bohren can't be topped.

In regards to your Cure reference:

The Sound - Jeopardy (Korova/Renascent) 80
The Sound - From The Lions Mouth (Korova/Renascent) 81
The Sound - All Fall Down (Korova/Renascent) 82
The Comsat Angels - Waiting For A Miracle (Polydor/Renascent) 80
The Comsat Angels - Sleep No More (Polydor/Renascent) 81
The Comsat Angels - Fiction (Polydor/Renascent) 82

Maybe some Swans.

Horns and strings. Hrmmm, not sure. How about:

Cousteau - Sirena (Palm Pictures) 02
Lambchop - Nixon (Merge) 00

To a lesser extent:
Plush - Fed (After Hours Jpn) 02
Rob - Satyred Love (Source/Virgin Fr) 02
The Delgados - The Great Eastern (Chemikal Underground) 00
The Czars - Before But Longer (Bella Union) 00

Thanks alot, haven't heard most of those, so I'll check them out. I agree with the And Also The Trees reccomend, I don't have The Klaxon though so, well I have to get it basically. Thanks again, and if anyones got anymore keep them coming.

Judgement of Paris (i think Projekt reissued both of their albums)

Tuxedomoon (i'm thinking specifially of Ghost Sonata)

no vocals, but Nouvelles Lectures Cosmopolites (NLC) might be just what you're looking for, instrumentally.

Czars isn't a bad recommendation. and a superb band.

Listen to the track from: STILLE OPPRØR - Meanwhile
http://www.myspace.com/stilleopproer

STILLE OPPRØR is Christer André Cederberg's (ANIMAL ALPHA, DRAWN, IN THE WOODS among others) one man project. hard to describe but impossible to ignore, STILLE OPPRØR manages to give the listener both comfort and discomfort at the same time. The second album is in the making and will be released this autumn. Songs will be added soon!

atmospheric moody electronic-rock at it's finest ! similar to Beyond Dawn, Manes, Tiamat, The The, Radiohead, Dredg

outstanding vocals and the music just flows

i was just going to recommend Sleep No More--F 'n' B beat me to it!

nerve_pylon, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 22:45 (eighteen years ago)

I'm glad to see someone recommending Tuxedomoon. 'Ghost Sonata' is a great suggestion, but it's mostly instrumental and is more 'fin de siècle' than 'noir'.

Trailer Bride - C&W meets Portishead, with the musical saw making a spooked out theramin-like appearance on most albums.
