Geri Halliwell described the band getting back together like "coming back to a family".

She added: "I think for us it was about celebrating the past, enjoying each other and it's about our fans. It was the right time."

The Spice Girls will play the following cities, with venues to be confirmed:

Los Angeles (December 7)
Las Vegas (8)
New York (11)
London (15)
Köln (20)
Madrid (23)
Beijing (January 10)
Hong Kong (12)
Sydney (17)
Cape Town (20)
Buenos Aires (24)

Los Angeles (December 7)

I can see the negotiations. "WE START WHERE I LIVE NOW."

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 June 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

I think for us it was about celebrating the past, enjoying each other and it's about our fans.

Will entrance be free then?

Probably not, but I also read somewhere that they will be re-releasing the movie in theatres where kids will be allowed in free, somehow, to um, grow new fans.

Finefinemusic, Thursday, 28 June 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

Mel B looks a lot fucking better these days than she did in the 90s.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 28 June 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

Word.

Victoria looks suitably coked up.

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 28 June 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I don't give a flying fuck about all this.

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 28 June 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

one is still on my wife list. one is now also on my deathwish list.

Alan, Thursday, 28 June 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

same person?

Mark G, Thursday, 28 June 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

Can't see what the hoopla is about. I doubt they have much drawing power these days. Who's going to go and see them? When they played here (sans Geri) the vast majority of the audience was little girls, who are now in their late teens and presumably not ready for a nostalgia trip just yet. This could quite possibly end up as a sad washout.

everything, Thursday, 28 June 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

Why on earth did pitchfork report this story?

el juan, Thursday, 28 June 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

Good, expensive marketing. Prepare for some idiotically trivial Spice-related news tidbit every single day for the next 18 months just to keep them in your brain (ala Paul McCartney at present).

everything, Thursday, 28 June 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

Tsk, it's disgusting. They should only cover real music.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 28 June 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

so i'll see you all at the vegas show then?

J.D., Thursday, 28 June 2007 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

this just in, the Jets are playing at Disneyworld

J0hn D., Thursday, 28 June 2007 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

i suppose people (inc. me) will care more about this if and when they release a cracking new song.

Frogman Henry, Friday, 29 June 2007 00:55 (eighteen years ago)

No. Probably not.

everything, Friday, 29 June 2007 00:58 (eighteen years ago)

What, there's two baby spizes now?

StanM, Friday, 29 June 2007 01:47 (eighteen years ago)

Posh has been lookin good

Surmounter, Friday, 29 June 2007 02:11 (eighteen years ago)

i for one thought that the spice girls were always hysterically funny. even thinking about Spice World makes me laugh a little bit, mostly because of that very silly scene on top of the tour bus.

the table is the table, Friday, 29 June 2007 02:15 (eighteen years ago)

ITEM! Ginger says sorry to Posh!

everything, Thursday, 5 July 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

I'd be really stoked if they were going into the studio, but a tour is kind of irrelevant with Spice.

damn mel c, when did you become the hot one?

creme1, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

Mel C was the hot one circa summer '98. A few months later she cut her hair and looked like she prefered sex with girls.

billstevejim, Friday, 6 July 2007 04:39 (eighteen years ago)

so basically her hot one reign is unbroken

i stopped paying close attention to the spice girls after seventh grade i guess and was legit surprised/slightly disappointed when i found out she wasnt actually a lez a couple months ago

A B C, Friday, 6 July 2007 04:44 (eighteen years ago)

In that pic she looks like Chan Marshall with different wardrobe.

billstevejim, Friday, 6 July 2007 04:54 (eighteen years ago)

Mel C was always #1 hotness as far as I'm concerned, I never really fancied the others much.

marmotwolof, Friday, 6 July 2007 06:05 (eighteen years ago)

there was meant to be like 'a spice for everyone' or whatever but where was the bookish specs-wearing spice in a cardi and DMs with posh-goth hair and a flowery dress?

pisces, Friday, 6 July 2007 08:43 (eighteen years ago)

look indie spice would defeat the whole purpose ok

marmotwolof, Friday, 6 July 2007 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

Twee/indie arty kids liked the Spice Girls enough anyway, they were the "My Humps" of their day

Dom Passantino, Friday, 6 July 2007 08:48 (eighteen years ago)

Mel Catpower!

xpost

Mark G, Friday, 6 July 2007 08:48 (eighteen years ago)

yeah and now Posh is the one with a L Word haircut, go figure.

Stimulating musical debate going on here.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 6 July 2007 09:26 (eighteen years ago)

Your "here" link doesn't work :(

StanM, Friday, 6 July 2007 09:28 (eighteen years ago)

I suppose the main attraction will be seeing how long they can stay on the same stage without fighting, or whether Lady Robot will still be content with standing and glowering at the back as in days of old.

It's nice and endearing to have them back, though - certainly more so than Take That Mk II with Mark Owen's increasing physical and vocal resemblance to a squashed Jack Duckworth.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 6 July 2007 09:31 (eighteen years ago)

"Vera! I'm back again! I tell you I'm back again!"

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 6 July 2007 09:31 (eighteen years ago)

With the exception of Posh, who now resembles a stick insect with freak boobs, they all look better than they did ten years ago.

-- Marcello Carlin, Friday, 6 July 2007 09:26 (8 minutes ago)

only in keeping with what people talked about first time round though. i'm all for nostagia!

pisces, Friday, 6 July 2007 09:35 (eighteen years ago)

Will the tour be sponsored by AutoTune or ProTools ?

StanM, Friday, 6 July 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

Frankly they are gorgeous (bar La Beckham; the richest one looks the worst, quelle surprise)!

I like the fact that they did the photo session at Greenwich Royal Observatory (straddling the world, mm-hmm...) though sadly an assiduous search of Google Images did not reveal a shot of them holding up Victoria as per human lightning rod conductor to ward off oncoming storms...

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 6 July 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

I guess Posh always fulfilled the role of group mascot, in the manner of, say, Eddie from Iron Maiden.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 6 July 2007 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

Marcello, I love you (for saying these things). :-)

She added: "I think for us it was about celebrating the past, enjoying each other and it's about our fans. It was the right time. money."

Personally I could care less if they reformed or not. Much like Take That, this is better left buried. That said, they do all look gorgeous except robo-bitch Beckham whose only weight is ambition. She looks like a complete freak, worse than a Barbie doll, to be honest. I had a good laugh when some article talked about Baby Spice having the most successful solo career.

nathalie, Friday, 6 July 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

Posh has always been gross, but she's even worse now.

marmotwolof, Friday, 6 July 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

Amber and Alice are well keen for this.

Mark G, Friday, 6 July 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

Butbutbut what is this HERESY re Take That 2.0?

mike t-diva, Friday, 6 July 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

Eddie never had giant silicon funbags as big as the one's attached to Mrs. Beckham these days. (xpost)

King Boy Pato, Friday, 6 July 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

Didn't you see them at Wembley on Sunday? Talk about the wind beneath their wings... (xpost)

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 6 July 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

so like are there any diamond in the rough Spice Girls album tracks? Someone have a POV non-singles? Just wondering.
