Does anyone else love the Midnight Juggernauts?

I kind of wrote them off after "Raised by Wolves," but the singles that've come out since- particularly "Shadows" and "Road to Recovery," though "45 and Rising" has its charms- are totally wrecking my shit.

Telephone thing, Friday, 29 June 2007 12:15 (eighteen years ago)

'shadows' is really great, best thing out of the whole cut copy-inspired scene. full album due around august apparently.

they are sorta lackluster DJs, going on the one time i saw them. (BUT they did close their set with 'roam' by the B52s!)

haitch, Friday, 29 June 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

saw them live with about 15 people in an austrailian theme bar last summer. they were ace. the new stuff is even better.

The album is called Dystopia apparently, out on Siberia in Australia sometime early next month. And did I mention they make great videos too? "Shadows" is bloody great, with the giant wireframe skull and floating heads and whatnot, and while "Road to Recovery" is slightly the lesser of the two, the song is better so it evens out. I have a borderline unhealthy love for this band.

Telephone thing, Friday, 29 June 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

Jesus, I sound like a street teamer. BUT NO MATTER, I MUST SPREAD MY MESSAGE

Telephone thing, Friday, 29 June 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

I like the EP but don't luurve it. Will look forward to hearing the album.

Fastnbulbous, Friday, 29 June 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

I have been listening to the new record and it is solid. Frankly, i'm taken aback, didn't think it was going to be that GOOD. Anyone else been digging this lately ?

oscar, Saturday, 4 August 2007 00:47 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm liking it too. Wasn't familiar with them until about 4 days ago.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 4 August 2007 00:48 (eighteen years ago)

This new album is twice as good as the Hercules And Love Affair.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 29 May 2008 02:19 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, hey, there was a thread for these guys. Been loving the new album, although I can't draw a comparison between that and Hercules Whatever, having not heard the latter.

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 29 May 2008 02:21 (seventeen years ago)

Herc is good and all, but it's a shame that it already monopolized "The Honorary Basement Jaxx Award presented to the one electronic record all year that indie rock kids will piss their pants over" when the Juggernauts offer awesome bladerunner moroder/carpenter house with enormous hooks and enormous synths.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 29 May 2008 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

The singer also has an amazing Bowie impression!

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 29 May 2008 02:52 (seventeen years ago)

The smooth pop cut copy / juggernauts thing feels like what happens when electroclash arrives in the rest of the world 7 years later...

paulhw, Thursday, 29 May 2008 03:14 (seventeen years ago)

They sound like ELO.

SeekAltRoute, Thursday, 29 May 2008 03:56 (seventeen years ago)

:D

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 29 May 2008 04:19 (seventeen years ago)

I dislike them but they have improved.

Popture, Thursday, 29 May 2008 04:28 (seventeen years ago)

I want to like them but can't. H&LA is at least disco that rock kids like. This is rock music that pretends to be disco but isn't really and I find that very hard to subscribe to...

J@cob, Thursday, 29 May 2008 05:11 (seventeen years ago)

Ditto with the ELO, wtf re: "bladerunner moroder/carpenter house", get one Kavinsky etc etc. Was pretty unimpressed w/them live; wish they hadn't abandoned the "Raised By Wolves" angle.

etc, Thursday, 29 May 2008 07:29 (seventeen years ago)

They sure are bland types!

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 29 May 2008 08:09 (seventeen years ago)

ok well im super drunk right now after playing bass in an awesome metal show and i have a hot chick waiting for me in my bed so ill say this:

fuck tom and his nu style of banning whatever he wants whenever he wants (sans admin log)

hey.. if i was a dude in his 30's, post failed marriage from an ilx chick, in a dead end job that never got laid, and had barely any irl friends i would love anonymously modding ilx too...

basically: this is the only thing dude has control of in his life.

even when he gets drunk he spends his time modding ilx. kinda sad.
fine.

you can say 6000 registered ilxors were good today but one of them that was actually totally cool, brought the lols and was a solid dude got banned for no reason was enough for me to say "fuck this shit"

tom millar obviously loves the "this is the thread where i say"
style of pussy ass bullshit posts that make ilx terrible. just see idiot thread board for that bullshit. its basically the same 4 ilxors talking about their bullshit lives that no one asked about plus tom telling us how wasted he is.

its like an episode of sex in the city with tom and ned adding in there 2 cents once in a while. wow what bunch of lols.

im not one to make a big post about leaving but fuck this shit. for reals. im leaving for gershy who is a real bro and "GOD FORBID!!!!" bumped threads that already existed....

this board is now just a bunch of rich college kids and dumb fat bitches (lets get real.... even the actual rock stars that post here are academic morons.) that wanna talk about the politics of messenger bags and facebook profiles. obviously tom wanted this. you can tell by his "dudes im totally wasted!" posts all over the dumb ass molify lingbert thread. so hay! you got what you wanted, tom!

i hope your life of never getting laid by anyone other than ally and being stuck in a dead end job is finally giving you what you wanted in life. everyone hates you btw. but hey as long as you rule who gives a fuck right?

I like this album, like a cross between Air, Berlin-era Bowie and some synth pop. And "Into The Galaxy" is a perfect pop song.

zeus, Friday, 13 June 2008 11:13 (seventeen years ago)

no such thing.

I heard "Dystopia" on the radio the other night and it sounded like Fields of the Nephilim being drowned in a fishtank filled with Jeyes fluid.

Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 13 June 2008 11:37 (seventeen years ago)

And is that a good thing?

zeus, Friday, 13 June 2008 13:10 (seventeen years ago)

no good thing.

Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 13 June 2008 13:24 (seventeen years ago)

i thought this album was decent when i first heard it, then i saw them live and re-assessments had to be made.

oscar, Sunday, 15 June 2008 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

They're decent I guess, although the guy's vocals get annoying and the album lacks variety (I rarely want to listen to it). Hopefully they'll develop more with the next record.

although the guy's vocals get annoying and the album lacks variety

also true of In Ghost Colours and maybe Apocalypso too. a few great tracks on all three albums tho.

They're a '90s odd couple. And an odds-on choice for laughs. (blueski), Monday, 22 September 2008 13:45 (seventeen years ago)

'Road To Recovery' kills. I guess I will never tire of this wannabe ELO+Alan Braxe nonsense.

do you reckon they like DAft Punk a little bit ??

grap-fu, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

I am going to be seeing them by accident on Saturday. (I think?)

Will I hate them, or will they amuse me like microprog?

C M Y Kate (Masonic Boom), Wednesday, 8 October 2008 14:44 (seventeen years ago)

OH YES!!!! DISCOPROG!!!! I LOVED THEM!!!!!!

Their drummer is an animal. I can't believe he was standing on Ross's drumkit. I'd have been tearing my hair out.

It is totally epic.

post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Sunday, 12 October 2008 03:16 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

I finally got around to getting the album (though I had to have someone in Rough Trade show me where it was - there are separate "electo" and "electonica" sections - who knew?) and it's making me happy indeed.

It's not quite as ... FULL ON as they are live, but still progalicious.

I'm going to ask for help - obviously I know what in the world of Prog they're musically namechecking, but what else in the world of dance (Daft Punk aside) sounds like this? Where are these things coming from? I know so little about that side of things.

post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 1 November 2008 12:50 (seventeen years ago)

I think it's Tombstone that's my fave. That was the one that was so utterly fucking epic with drum-kit standing episodes live.

post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 1 November 2008 12:55 (seventeen years ago)

Love that track but the lyrics to "Tombstone" are so unbelievably bad that I keep knocking this album down my best albums of 2008 list.

Whiney G. Torture Garden (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 1 November 2008 15:00 (seventeen years ago)

It's ace. In 2014, when a particularly annoying and chart-happy single of theirs is chronically over-played and gives everyone the shits, The Crystal Axis will be unearthed and finally get the recognition it deserves.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 13 June 2013 07:22 (twelve years ago)

definitely a great album, but i'm not enjoying it as much as the crystal axis (which is unfair considering how great that was). obv i'll be giving it plenty of time to grow. highlights:

- ballad of the war machine (obv; incredible)
- memorium (the new single, catchy as hell)
- streets of babylon (possibly the best track as it is, but i would LOVE to hear a 7–8 min version)
- melodiya

sadly this will sink like a stone because it's the midnight juggernauts

Agreed! Which makes me wonder why everyone continues to not care about this band.

vmajestic, Wednesday, 6 November 2013 00:06 (twelve years ago)

I'm guessing because it leaked about three months before release, meaning everyone who would have bought a copy just DLed it instead.

cosigned on astonishment @ the sustained collective apathy towards this band; they're fucking phenomenal. at this point I think Crystal Axis + Uncanny Valley is a better one-two album combo than In Ghost Colours + Zonoscope, although IGC is probably the best album of the 4 listed.
