"like glue," with nods to "gimme the light" and the crazy under appreciated "we be burnin'"

Jordan Sargent, Friday, 29 June 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

They're all good, but I think "Deport Them" is still the best of this bunch. Of course this isn't even 1% of all the singles that Sean Paul has actually released over the years.

Alex in SF, Friday, 29 June 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

It's between "Deport 'Dem" and "I'm Still In Love With You" for me. All of his singles are amazing though.

(You forgot "Breathe" w/ Blu Cantrell)

The Brainwasher, Friday, 29 June 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

I'd go for "Infiltrator", but in its absence, I'll throw my vote towards "Get Busy".

The Reverend, Friday, 29 June 2007 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

for clarification, i took these off of wikipedia (missed that blu cantrell one by accident), so these are official us/uk singles.

Jordan Sargent, Friday, 29 June 2007 22:37 (eighteen years ago)

Woo hoo way to marginalize the entire Jamaican music industry!

Alex in SF, Friday, 29 June 2007 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

oh please.

Jordan Sargent, Friday, 29 June 2007 22:47 (eighteen years ago)

"Like Glue" wins pretty easily for me.

Gimme the Light

Dom Passantino, Friday, 29 June 2007 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

"need a lot of trees up in my ass"

Tape Store, Friday, 29 June 2007 23:19 (eighteen years ago)

Probably sounds megapopulist of me to say this but it's obviously "Get Busy" from my perspective.

This poll marginalises a lot of his great JA only singles like "Close To Me", "Head Fi Toe" and esp. the awesome "Life Is A Gift".

Tim F, Saturday, 30 June 2007 01:14 (eighteen years ago)

Or his fantastic "Haffi Get De Gal Ya (Hot Gal Today)" w/ Mr. Vegas on the Streetsweeper riddim or "Ever Blazin" on Masterpiece.

Alex in SF, Saturday, 30 June 2007 01:29 (eighteen years ago)

SHAKE THAT THING MISS ANNABELLA

lex pretend, Saturday, 30 June 2007 02:03 (eighteen years ago)

Well they all sound exactly the same, so I guess I'll just vote for boring old "Get Busy," because it was the one I heard first.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 1 July 2007 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

"Like Glue" always struck me as the prettiest one with the perkiest synths, and I loved when someone on ILM pointed out it was basically "Louie Louie"--so that gets my vote, but just narrowly over "Get Busy" and "Gimme Da Light."

sw00ds, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)

btw, they hardly "all sound exactly the same"! That's ridiculous. "Like Glue" and "Get Busy" are entirely different, just for starters. They "all sound exactly the same" in the same way that any music sung by the same person sound exactly the same.

sw00ds, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

easy. 'like glue'.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

like glue just eases out deport them.

s1ocki, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

'We Be Burnin'
I'm still surprised how much I like this.

zeus, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

Breathe

calstars, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

(quietly votes for Temperature)

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

O RLY

The Reverend, Thursday, 5 July 2007 07:56 (eighteen years ago)

i'm basically astounded that "gimmie the light" only got one vote.

Jordan Sargent, Thursday, 5 July 2007 07:58 (eighteen years ago)

...and "Baby Boy" got none.

The Reverend, Thursday, 5 July 2007 08:04 (eighteen years ago)

Of those listed "Baby Boy" would be my second favourite song, but I don't really think of it as a Sean Paul song. If you're gonna include it you may as well include "Breathe" and Mya's amazing "Things Come & Go" as well.

Tim F, Thursday, 5 July 2007 08:10 (eighteen years ago)

...and "Baby Boy" got none.

I KNOW! i guess maybe people associate that more with beyonce, but i f'in love that song.

also: has anyone had better singles this decade than sean paul? i think maybe outkast, the white stripes, missy elliot. britney... but you could argue sean paul over all of those (and everyone else) i think.

Jordan Sargent, Thursday, 5 July 2007 08:12 (eighteen years ago)

'things come & go' love seconded!

'baby boy' is probably my favourite of those after 'get busy' too - it's v possibly my second favourite beyoncé single as well - but i think beyoncé's responsible for its best bits (the second verse). really underrated song.
