Is "Stupid Girl" on there? Is "2000 Man?"

Do we accept this as Rolling Stones "best of" and "double album" (wait, quotes make no sense there) maaterial?

dean ge, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 03:32 (eighteen years ago)

when coupled with 'More Hot Rocks' (to make Rolling Stones "best of" and "quadruple album"), then yes

Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 03:40 (eighteen years ago)

but that's in the album era .. in the CD era you can just add one more CD and buy the Singles box instead

what's your take on the who killed brian jones, dean?

gershy, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 03:42 (eighteen years ago)

IT WAS THE WHO.........

gershy, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

he sure played a mean speedball

"Stupid Girl" doesn't need to be on a Rolling Stones best-of but "Ride on, Baby" does.

But, really, what I mean to say is that those are all the Rolling Stones songs I'm kind of bored with. They're like fish lures. The Real shit comes after you do a lot of drugs and spend all your money on their catalog. Then, you get the "hot rocks."

uh

Obviously it's a mega classic, on the Mount Rushmore of greatest hits compilations. But the biggest problem with it is it came out one year before Exile! They could have waited a year and had Rocks Off and Tumbling Dice, and Loving Cup. Holy mackerel that's bad timing (for people who get riled up about this sort of thing)

I basically "discovered" the Stones through the cassette of this that me and best friend Joe S3n@c stole from the Musicland at the mall, 7th grade or so, big shoplifting phase. I don't remember if Joe stole it, or I did (we usually shared the booty equally, regardless of who actually stole the thing, but somehow I ended up with this one.)

my next Stones purchase (and i think i did actually buy this) was a cassette of "Made In The Shade".

Let's talk about "Made in the Shade" -- THERE's your fuggin HOT ROCKS!

Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 04:10 (eighteen years ago)

x-post , kornrulez - they couldn't have put those tracks on the comp cuz they had changed labels!

Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

first rolling stones record i bought was high tide and green grass

I don't know what this means. Do you like Mount Rushmore?

dean ge, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 05:01 (eighteen years ago)

Stormy, do you really think Shade is the equal of Hot Rocks? There's some fairly weak stuff on there, especially if you're gonna put it up again "Paint It Black" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" -- I don't care how many times they've been heard.

Oh, sorry, I forgot your earlier posts in the thread. Like I hadn't read them 30 seconds before.

nah, I am totally not sayin' it's the equal! I was kind of just throwing it out there to chuckle at "MADE IN THE SHADE" ... such an afterthought in the Stones discography at this point (what with your "REWINDS" and "FORTY LICKS" and what not.) yet, for me, it was a mind-blower, that's all ... that's all us wee lads had in '84 or whatever, our cherished tapes of HOT ROCKS and MADE IN THE SHADE

Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 05:19 (eighteen years ago)

I can see that; it's like half SF and Exile, right? And I still think "Heartbreaker" is pretty damn hot.

My private afterthought is Through the Past, Darkly which is the first thing I ever owned by them (or practically anybody).

Also, fourth side of More Hot Rocks is kinda Heaven.

In "modern times" (i.e. within the past three years) I have sort of rediscovered the stones.

What helped was getting "The London Singles" 3CD set from HMV (japanese 'LP facsimile' version) for £16 (due to a pricing error, most likely)

Good place to start, anyway.

Mark G, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 08:20 (eighteen years ago)

why did ROLLED GOLD or that one with the plaster cast of some teeth never come out on cd?

pisces, Tuesday, 3 July 2007 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

Too many other "greatest hits" collections?
