Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)

2002 is a really stupid year to be nostalgic for.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)

The Baha Men sure did have a lot of hits for one-hit wonders.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:40 (eighteen years ago)

None of the above?

I mean, if it had been any other Oasis track, I might have but I never liked that one.

I can see which might win, but hey,.

Mark G, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

No love for "Hero", Mark?

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:44 (eighteen years ago)

He's not gonna stand here and wait, y'know?

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:44 (eighteen years ago)

valance ftw

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

fucking hell, can't believe that prodigy track was so long ago.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

god this sucks.
i can't believe i just voted for like the sixth best nelly song ever.

Jordan Sargent, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

^^^ this.

When Amy Studt's in the top three of any list, you're in problems.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:48 (eighteen years ago)

Dee Dee - Forever

Don't remember this /blueski]

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:48 (eighteen years ago)

"Love at First Sight" and "Hot In Herre" are two of my favorite singles this decade.

groovemaaan, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

"foolish" is actually kinda good.
what is tom deluxe?

Jordan Sargent, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know "Hero", or I think I don't.

"Herre", I mean it's still on the playlist! I like it OK, but hey, "Missing it already" hasn't happened.

Mark G, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

Really saccharine funky house track.

xp

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:54 (eighteen years ago)

Eminem vs Nelly vs Scooter

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

i think this is a good list btw. and dom is fronting re. studt.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:58 (eighteen years ago)

FISCHERSPOONER on Top of the Pops?

acrobat, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:59 (eighteen years ago)

lol fischerspooner

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:00 (eighteen years ago)

I liked It Just Won't Do! Maybe more than anything here except Without Me. I had no idea DJ Marky had a hit single

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:00 (eighteen years ago)

brandy just over liberty x, kylie, holly v, nelly.

haha, didn't see fischerspooner first time round! that's good too. people will still dance to it.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

Good trolling by "maria" there.

xxxp

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

r.i.p. brandy.

Jordan Sargent, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:02 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for "The Logical Song", it reminds me of what I was doing that summer which was working a series of shit pay factory jobs on the Brackmills industrial estate in Northampton. Northants 96.6 ("The Hot FM") used to rinse that Scooter track to death, and I don't think I ever got bored of it, even when I was putting the heads on Bart Simpson bubblebaths.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:02 (eighteen years ago)

nelly please come back to earth.

Jordan Sargent, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:10 (eighteen years ago)

"Without Me" is the last great Eminem single, my personal "Ass Like That" love aside. "Hot in Herre" is straight memetic genius. "Logical Song" is the sound of drinking til you puke. Liberty X brutally slain by the Halifax's marketing people, sadly.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:11 (eighteen years ago)

^^ ah, the pallid masquerade of another ilm oxbridge toff.

i vote liberty x, edging out christina milian on sentiment.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:12 (eighteen years ago)

I think all singles should be reviewed in the context of hearing them at 6am in a Wickes warehouse.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:17 (eighteen years ago)

strange looking at that list. holly valance was then? 'kiss kiss' feels more 1999ish. and steps had already split up and gone solo? i didn't remember it that way.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:17 (eighteen years ago)

I'm having a lot of trouble putting H and Clare in the same charts as The Calling, yeah.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:18 (eighteen years ago)

er is nickleback actually popular in the UK too or did "hero" just piggyback spiderman?

Jordan Sargent, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:20 (eighteen years ago)

it was a spidey thing.

1999-ness ('beau travail' style) is probably why i voted 'kiss kiss'.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

unrealted but doesn't that guy from the vines actually have aspergers?

Jordan Sargent, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

If I was voting on the basis of which track made me choke with laughter every time it came on MTV (which would maybe be legitimate) the Chad Kroeger one would walk this

xpost yes, why?

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

In addition to the success associated with his band Saliva, Scott garnered fame from a duet with Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. Together, they wrote and performed "Hero", which was used as one of the theme songs to the 2002 film Spider-Man. He made a cameo appearance on Jay-Z's "Takeover" on his 2001 album The Blueprint. He has also been in two songs with Lil Wyte, "Homicidal, Suicidal" where he sings the chorus and "Crazy" where he sings the chorus and first verse. He also performed with Three Six Mafia in the song "Gettin Fucked Up".

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:24 (eighteen years ago)

He made a cameo appearance on Jay-Z's "Takeover" on his 2001 album The Blueprint.

whaaaaaaaaaaaa?

also i would pay up to 300 dollars to be in the studio while josey scott and lil wyte are working together.

xxpost dom brought it up in the intro to the poll.

Jordan Sargent, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:31 (eighteen years ago)

not some J$NOT aspie bullshit

Just for the record, I don't suffer from Asperger syndrome (as far as I know). Multiple Sclerosis, on the other hand, yes--diagnosed in 1996, if you must know. AS, no. But thanks for the kind words, Dom. Keep up the good work.

JN$OT, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:32 (eighteen years ago)

'Without Me' wins on penalties

blueski, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:48 (eighteen years ago)

(I don't have AS)

blueski, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:49 (eighteen years ago)

AS like that?

Mark G, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:53 (eighteen years ago)

please stop

blueski, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:55 (eighteen years ago)

^^^ this

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, 'Emerge' and 'Without Me' are in my final too, but here the Fischerspooner guys shoots the penalties much better.

zeus, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 11:58 (eighteen years ago)

they played better, deserved to win etc. - dubious sending off of lead singer's spandex breeches etc.

blueski, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

I heard "Emerge" emerge from the PA in "Wet and Wild" Florida, earlier this year.

Mark G, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

Good top 40 to pick, I suppose. Whereas most charts look better with retrospect, this one seemed better at the time than it does now.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 12:08 (eighteen years ago)

I don't like any of the records listed! Not one!

Pashmina, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

Hot in herre. Only one I like.

jim, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

Not a single awful indie guitar band (as Oasis by this point are stadium rock) in the entire chart!

I voted Emerge, but just cos I didn't notice Hot in Herre. I really lik Just Won't Do, too.

It's not a bad chart, really. Lots of versions of what pop is.

Jamie T Smith, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

lik = like, I guess

Jamie T Smith, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

It's still mostly awful, mind.

Jamie T Smith, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

Idlewild = indie guitar band

danzig, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)

Idlewild had turned into an REM tribute band by this point, I'm agreeing with JTS's analysis.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 13:54 (eighteen years ago)

it's all a lot less tasteful than the charts seem to be these days. guardianistas not diggin the itunes yet?

acrobat, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

I kinda assumed "one" person would do a wacky vote for "Hero".

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

po-faced fucking shit.

anti-popist result shock.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

xxpot spidey forgot to log in to ILM today i guess lol.

Jordan Sargent, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 23:15 (eighteen years ago)

can't believe fischerspooner got 9 votes and 'it just won't do' got none. people hate dancing :(

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, in retrospect I'd vote Liberty X - Just a little. For being way better than it should be.

Mark G, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 08:38 (eighteen years ago)

ILM chocka with cock-rockists shocka

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 08:42 (eighteen years ago)

surprised at just the one vote for kylie. and i love 'emerge' but...people remembering it in 2007, wtf.

there are lots of "second-rate/forgotten songs by brilliant artists" in that list. alicia keys, mis-teeq, the milian, j-lo. each of their best would have walked this. (for me, anyway.)

lex pretend, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 09:05 (eighteen years ago)

'Without Me' wins on penalties
-- blueski

"Eminem wins on penalties" --'d have an even funnier ring to it! :)

t**t, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

people hate dancing :(

uh 'hot in herre' came second you know. ILM just hates cheesy ibeefa house.

blueski, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

nrq do you dance? i can't imagine nrq dancing.

top 3 to dance to here are 'just a little', 'hot in herre' and 'emerge'

lex pretend, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)
